I thought I heard somewhere that swans are territorial?
Apparently not. This is my yard right now:

I will never be rid of these damn geese.
Re: I thought I heard somewhere that swans are territorial?
Oh lord. That's hilarious and aggravating all at once.
When I was in Dublin last year, there were the fattest swans ever on St. Stephen's Green. And one of them started chasing a woman who was trying to take a picture. I really wish I had gotten a video of that. I did take a picture of the 'roided up looking swans, though. I'll have to find it.
Found it!

LOL at 'roided swans.
I hate canadian geese. One of them got ahold of the paw of a dog in Admiral's hill a few years ago and really hurt it.
Canadian geese are evil!!
Yeah, swans are super aggressive. But I remember someone said to me once "It's too bad you don't have swans, because they'd kick the geese out." Apparently not. We have 2 blue herons also, but the Canadian geese prevail.
DoggyE killed 3 geese last year. They stand right on the edge and don't move when she goes out there, so she snatches them by the neck and shakes.
Seriously though, they do the stupid mosey around thing that they do when they're in the middle of the road and a car is coming and they ignore it.
I hate Canadian geese, they're so messy and they're EVERYWHERE. I don't remember them being this prevalent when I was growing up around here.
And, dude, those swans are huge!
You'd think they'd learn.
After the dog got hurt a few years ago, I stayed away from them. Though I am fairly certain P could take one anyday, I was terrified of them! I mean, they nearly snapped his paw off clean!
There are a ton of geese in the area near where I work. They all but take over the roads. Sometimes I'll be headed home and the'll be 100's of them on either side of the road. They usually get out of the way or aren't in the way of cars though.
I don't mind geese from a distance. They do get a little scary when they are standing between me and where I'm going or follwing me or something. Swans are pretty... from a distance.
Aww
Apparently! He was a pug/beagle mix- about 25 pounds. And the worst was after my friend snatched him up, the damn thing kept coming at her.
We were driving through Watertown square once, and while we were sitting there (FOREVER! as you can imagine if you've ever been through Watertown square) watching a flock of geese decide which way they were going to walk. They started crossing the street one way, then turned around, and then doubled back. The person in the car stuck behind them kept honking her horn, but they really didn't seem to care.
And Punky, that's terrible!
Ha, when we had a photo shoot for rescue, my dog was at the Arlington Pond and sitting on a rock and these HOOOGE swans kept swimming toward her and I was like, 'shoo! get away! shoo you nasty creatures!"
I should say I'm kind of afraid of birds. All birds. They freak me out with their wings and flying poop and beaks.
Canadian geese are really stupid, and really mean. And disgusting.
I don't like the dog going after them and we try to avoid the geese, but sometimes they just don't move when we're out there. It's dangerous for all involved!
Oh yeah, they were definitely everywhere... all over the field hockey fields at different schools we played. Horrible!
My sister got attacked by a swan when she was little-- she was holding a yellow plastic shovel and it must have thought she had its baby and kept charging at her.
