To make everything even more fun, my lawyer just called me. He received the judgement saying that our former landlords won, and we lost.. and now we owe them like $4,000. The day of court, they offered us a settlement of $1050, which we ignored. I wanted to just pay it and move on. J saw it as a sign that they were squirming and didn't think they had a case.. So he made the executive decision to go forth without consulting me. So, we did.. and we lost. So on top of all this other drama, I now need to figure out how the *** we're supposed to come up with money we don't have and can't afford to pay. And, know what my lawyer's idea was? We should move to Portland ASAP where they won't have jurisdiction over us to pay them. Are you *** kidding me?
Does anyone have a spare cave I can crawl into to live out the rest of my days?
Re: We lost the lawsuit
when it rains, it pours.
i don't remember, what was the lawsuit over again?
i'm so sorry you're in pain...i TOTALLY understand. it's so hard to be in so much pain and to get out of bed in the morning. 7 months later i still have painful days. i had to worry about getting addicted to painkills bc they were the only thing that allowed me to even remotely function.
is it a possibilty to go on disability? i dont know what kind of benefits you have...
The lawsuit was over us vacating the apartment 18 months early. It was unlivable. They sued us for things that were done to the apartment before we moved in (maintenance repairs) and for 2 months rent. We paid up until we left, and vacated the apartment in good condition and unlocked. They were just lying sacks of poop. And the judge was in a foul mood.
As for disability, I have no idea. I'd probably need to go through a lot of red tape. NYC doesn't like giving it to people who ligitimitely need it. I wouldn't get anything from my job. I have no benefits there at all. Not even insurance or sick days.
