DSM Endocrinologists

I have a feeling I'm going to have to visit an endocrinologist for my hair loss. Does anybody have a reccomendation for me?

Re: DSM Endocrinologists

  • I don't have a suggestion as I'm going through the VA, but just wanted to let you know I feel you! I'm having a lot of thyroid problems at the moment and keep having to get blood test after blood test.  Hopefully we figure this all out!

  • I've heard good things about the ones in Ames at McFarland Clinic but I'm not sure you'd want to drive that far....

have you asked your primary care doctor? Mine is awesome and always gives me good recs.

  • I saw Dr Singaram with Mercy Diabetes and Endocrinology when I was first diagnosed with thyroid issues.  She was a bit hard to understand due to her accent, but really knew what she was talking about and was open to working with me so I could finish breastfeeding before treatment started if that was necessary.

Once we were established on a maintenance dose of meds my family practice doctor took over my care.

This is what I'm worried about. I REALLY want to breastfeed until Neena is two. UGH! Silly thyroid.

  • Dr. Ricahrd Carano in Ames is very thorough but also takes a long time to get in to.  I would highly recommend Dr. Nancy Kane from Iowa Diabetes and Endocrinology (downtown dsm) - she is very intelligent, easy to talk to, understanding and works in a group, so there are some benefits with that if you have future appts, etc...best of luck with your health!
  • how much are you losing?  now i am worried i need to see one too?!  i lose about a handful in the shower each day...i thought this was normal with breastfeeding and hormones being out of whack?!  i guess i never looked into it more...but i don't have any bald spots.
