I am slightly disturbed .... overreacting ?
Part of my job is to attend various bridal events and represent my company. At the last one I attended amongst, the photogs, planners, and florists were a plastic surgeon, a teeth whitening and cosmetic dentist, and several weight loss /work out plans (includeing supplements, food services etc)
I couldnt' help but be shocked. I mean I think plastic surgery is a personal choice, but to present it as a "necessary" thing as a officiant ?! IDk totally rubbed me the wrong way. WAAYY to "bridalplasty"
Re: I am slightly disturbed .... overreacting ?
I get weight loss and teeth whitening. But plastic surgery and cosmetic dentistry just feed into this terrible Wedding Industrial Complex monster we've created.
Are these women not good enough to marry (ie love) the way they are?
I am with you--it skeeves me out.
i'd give the side eye to the plastic surgeon and MAYBE the cosmetic dentist but the other 2 wouldn't phase me in the least. i was one of THOSE brides who had their teeth whitened days before the wedding.
are any of those things 'necessary' .. NO !
I totally agree. Back when I was doing the bridesmaid thing, an African-American friend of mine got married in a Victorian-style wedding dress (it was the 80s, don't flame!), and she wore a wig that was styled in that loose top-knot that was so popular in the Victorian era. Don't get me wrong, it looked great with the dress, but it wasn't her.
There are a couple of girls at my work who are getting married soon, and I keep telling them if it doesn't involve food, drink, or music, don't stress about it!
Oh I totally had a trainer and lost around 15 pounds before my wedding. I didn't have professional whitening, but I did use whtie strips for the week ahead of time, so I understand wanting to look your best, which is why I was debating myself if I was overreacting... but there is a difference between losing weight (esp in a healthy way) and getting a totally new nose, or boobs for your wedding.
Wow.. really interesting and slightly disturbing.
Perhaps the plastic surgeons also do botox or something.. so its not just surgery? Not that that is any better... but maybe a little.
