Carpet stains?

Hi all,
I've never posted on this board mostly because, to be honest, our house was neither clean nor organized until this past week.

We decided to rearrange the furniture in our living room and found, much to our dismay, that the carpet in the middle of the room is horribly dirty and discolored. Any suggestions besides hiring a carpet cleaning company to get it clean?

    You can rent a carpet cleaning machine at any of the big box home improvement stores, and at some grocery stores. You have to invest some labor, but they tend to be less expensive than a carpet cleaning company.

    I received a bissell Little green carpet cleaner for a wedding gift and I love it. It works great. My mom has the bissell carpet cleaner that is more like a push vacuum and it works for larger areas. I think she purchased it for $100 on sale. Maybe look into one of those. Hope that helped.

    I have had good luck with Resolve's High Traffic Foam.  This is different from the regular Resolve carpet cleaner.   I have to get the husband to take the kids and the dog to his parents or the park for the day to get them all from underfoot.

    We have a Hoover Steam Vac, and it works great. It was about $120 when we bought it and if you are going to live in carpeted areas for a long time, it's a great investment.

    We also have the Hoover, and love it.  I've had white carpet for a few years and would have gone insane without the Hoover.

    We also started using this, it's a miracle product. I used it to quickly clean cat puke from four carpeted stairs just this morning.
