RHOC/ Push Presents/ DH

DH and I were just watching one of the new episode of RHOC when they were talking about push presents... he started panicking "push present?! what the hell is a push present? Do I HAVE to get you one?". I love the things you learn from these ladies Stick out tongue

The woman on RHOC got a Bentley, I told him I'd be happy with ice cream...

Re: RHOC/ Push Presents/ DH

  • Someone at Matt's work told him about a push present... It's so ridiculous. Wouldn't the best present just be a healthy baby?

  • Totally-- he looked like a deer in headlights! I should have gone along with it... but I'm not that mean Stick out tongue
  • Tell him you'll settle for a new mini-van... it doesn't have to be a Bentley ;)

Haha, well at this point, he thinks he's the one who "deserves" a present... for marrying me/ putting up with me. Oh well. The whole concept is ridiculous and sad.

  • DH asked me if I wanted a "push present" (read it in some book!!)... I saw no reason for it... but did use it as an excuse to get the standing jewelry armoire that I had been eyeing :-)  It was only $100 though- and now that I think about it, DH didn't get me a bday gift- so we're even haha

  • Okay I'll play-

I tell DH that I want a push present, the matching band to my wedding band that I'll wear on top of my engagement ring. I think it's a nice gesture, and honestly after carrying a baby for 9 months and going thru labor, a present isn't the worst thing in the world. It could be a push/mothers day present, but he knows that it is something I really want

Also my Grandmother was married to a jeweler and she had 4 kids, after each kid she got a piece of jewelry so I'm biased.

I like that idea.  I want to get one of those for our 5th anniversary, to celebrate our family.

I didn't want/ask for/get a "push present," but I'm supposed to get a Patrick-themed piece of jewelry as a Mother's Day gift since he was born about a month and a half after and we didn't celebrate it.  My mom has a necklace with a charm for each of us, I want something like that.  But here we are almost 2 years later and I still haven't been able to pick something out.  Maybe after the next kid.

I think it's different if it is something that isn't necessarily expected but is part of family tradition (like in your grandmother's or my mom's case).

  • I like the concept and think its a very sweet for the husbands to give their wife something special, but I think (in RH terminology) "push present" had been taken to a whole new level.

  • Not related, but I saw a bentley IRL for the first time yesterday. At a red light, swarmed by people (windows down). I described the guy to a friend and she said maybe Taye Diggs but I have no idea.
  • It's too bad that you didn't have that discussion today/night and totally could have ran with it and then said "April Fools". Wink

I like the 2nd wedding band idea, but my band was kind of expensive and I couldn't imagine spending the money on it after just having a baby. However a piece of jewelry relating to the child (like the birth store or something engraved with the name/initials) is really thoughtful.

  • I really want an eternity band to go with my rings. My wedding band is really thin (as is my engagement ring) and wasn't pricey at all, and a matching eternity band would be under 1k (since I'd want it to be the same width). Maybe as a 10 yr anniversary/loans are paid off thing Stick out tongue
  • I was trying to remember last night what else DH has learned from trashy reality tv... a while back, he was watching Khloe and Kourtney take Miami or something and saw Khloe pumping-- I don't think he had ever heard of pumping before. Hysterical. You get a good education from trashy tv!

I was watching Bethanny Getting Married, and right after she had her daughter her boobs were engorged and she was pumping from both at the same time (not sure if thats how you really do it?) I remember it caught his eye as he walked by, and the comment was something like wth is she doing to them? Yeah same thing!

I think that is the only episode of Bethanny I ever saw. (And yes typically you pump both at the same time. I have a double electric pump)

As for Push presents I didn't get one from DH though I did tell him after the baby was born I wanted a necklace like my mom has (A cicle sort of with the moms head and baby's head forming the top of the circle.) Of course he didn't get it for me but my mom did. I haven't taken it off since I got it and I added my sea turtle charm to the chain because it is what i got on vacation when we conceived. (TMI maybe but I don't care.)

  • DHs coworkers were telling him it should be jewelry. I told him I don't expect anything, but that if he wanted to get me something flowers would be nice. That is what I got, flowers, sunflowers which are my favorite. Now, for mother's day this year I am hoping he does something nice Smile Eventually I would like either a birthstone ring or charm necklace that has the birthstones representing each kid.

  • I've told H I would like a charm necklace/bracelet with something signifing each child. I see it as a thank you for eveything we have to go through in pregnancy and labor. As well, I think I wouldl ike to get H something for the helping me through the pregnancy and labor. I may need to have him watch that episode of RHOOC, after all we are thinking about getting a new car.Stick out tongue
