Beer bread recipe

Ladies, I just found this recipe for copycat Tastefully Simple beer bread, which I'm completely addicted to now -- I haven't tried it yet, but it got good reviews and it  looks super-easy and much less expensive than buying the TS mixes.

If you don't have self-rising flour, you can make it easily by adding 1 1/2 tsp baking powder, and 1/2 tsp salt per each cup of regular flour.

  • what kind of beer do you suggest using?

and is a bread loaf pan just a loaf pan? i have a pyrex glass one - would you use a different material?

    i'd love to try this.

and i'm feeling dumb about the instructions - cook 50 minutes, spread butter over it and cook for 10 more?

You can use any kind of beer you like, except light beer (and for some reason one of the reviews said to avoid Corona).  If you use a strongly-flavored beer like Guinness, you'll definitely taste it in the bread.

Also, if you don't have beer, you can actually subsitute seltzer water, which I did the first few times I made it and it tasted fine to me.   It just needs something carbonated to make it rise.

The pan is a standard 9x5 loaf pan - glass should be fine.  Spray the pan before baking, though, because the bread will definitely stick otherwise.

You can also add the melted butter at the beginning, but it makes the crust crispier.  If you prefer softer crust, wait until the last ten minutes of baking and then put the butter on top.
