Is this common??
March 3rd I interviewed with a corporation in Columbus. They called me back a week later and requested a second interview, which I again traveled 3.5 hrs each way for. He said he would talk to the doctor and call me either that afternoon or the next day. Both interviews were fantastic, or so I thought. I never heard anything back. A week after the second interview, (a Friday) I gave the guy a call to follow up. He was out of the office. So I left info and didnt hear anything back.
Then--last week I went down for another interview that went exceptionally and she told me she would be on Vacation for the next 5 days and that she would get in touch with me "mid week" I still haven't heard anything from her and she didnt respond to the email I sent.
Is it common to not give a courtesy "no thank you" call if you hire someone else?
I just want an answer either way.

unfortunately it can be common - and it really sucks!!!! I used to always like to give a courtesy "we went with another candidate" message, but my past employer recommended that i didn't....in case we wanted the candidate at a later date...
WTF i know!!!! I would give follow up messages when I could, especially if they were checking in with me....and would definitely in your situaion....jeez!!
I'm in a similiar boat as you....I had a 2nd interview with the Pres. of a company and was supposed to hear in a week......week came & went this wed, still no news.
It's incredibly frustrating and rude! Especially since you had to travel 3.5 hours each way for each interview.
You definitley deserve a follow up whether good news or not. I hope you hear from them soon, ::vibes for good news!!::

I guess this makes sense on the business end, but Ill tell ya- if you dont give me the courtesy to inform me otherwise, don't intend to hire me another time. ESPECIALLY if Ive called/emailed you and you ignored me

I suppose Im just appalled because Ive either gotten the job or been notified otherwise in every other situation. BLAH
beee! I hear ya, i don't agree with that practice either. Even if they want to use the candidate for a later opening, at least tell them they did or didn't get the job they applied for.
The employer that I was refering to is EXTREMELY self absorbed & unethical....that's why I didn't go strictly by their policy...i found it to be rude. In my eyes, the candidate gave us their time, at least give them a courtesy follow up.

I agree it's more common then people think it is. It is unprofessional and I never did it but I do understand that people are so swamped they don't have time for it.
I know you are looking for a job and I'm definitely sending vibes your way but from my past experience of hiring stay calm but sometimes emergency meetings or other things come up that take their time away from hiring and they can't get back to it for a few days.
I'm just going to pretend this post never existed. I had an interview last Friday. They said they'd call on Monday. I emailed them Monday and they said they were interviewing another candidate, and I would find out next week.
I'm already panicked about it. I thought everything went really well but maybe I'm overestimating my greatness?
