Help me kick a soda addiction.
I love soda and I hate water. I really need to cut out/eliminate it from my diet. DH rarely touches the stuff so we never have it in the house. I drink it at work instead of coffee to keep me awake late at night, which is my pyschological justification. It really boils down to I like it and I want to drink it.
Any tips for transitioning to water? I was going to buy a water bottle to carry with me and force myself to fill it up twice a day. But I'm not sure that will be enough...

Re: Help me kick a soda addiction.
I gave up soda for Lent, and because I drink too much of it. I like the Crystal Light packets, although I'm sure the artificial sweeteners aren't great for you.
Also, I had bad caffeine headaches for like 2 weeks.
I had pretty good sucess with those little Crystal Light packets that you can pour into a water bottle.
Cutting out soda completely can lead to nasty headaches due to caffine withdraw. You may want to consider having tea or hot chocolate on hand in case you need a bit of caffine but don't want to drink soda.
You could try drinking flavored fizzy water, or flavored seltzer. That might help you transition to plain water. Or you could add Crystal Light packets to water, at least initially, until you get used to plain water.
How much soda do you drink a day? You could also just cut back slowly over time, and gradually add in water. I didn't used to drink a ton of water, but I just started carrying my water bottle around all the time, and eventually it was habit to drink it.
Good luck!
I would start with just cutting back very gradually.
So if you normally have 4 20 oz. bottles in a night, try going to 3 a night (or a day or whatever.) Do that for a week then go to 2 bottles, then 1.
I used the crystal light packets to help me get to like water - I used a whole packet in a bottle, then 3/4 of a packet, then a half a packet, etc. As I decreased my soda intake I also decreased how much CL I used.
Now I drink soda maybe twice a month and I feel MUCH better overall. I think it can be hard to start with water but once you do, you become addicted.
Also, iced tea could be a nice transition too. You get the caffeine but its not as harsh as soda.
I have a full 32 ounce Nalgene bottle at my desk all the time. I refill it 4 to 5 times a day. My coworkers make fun of me, but I have a straw inside the bottle that I constantly sip from. For me, straws always seem to make beverages disappear faster.
I am also not a coffee person so I keep green tea bags at my desk when I need a boost of energy.
I used to drink soda like it was my job, but gradually I switched to drinking it only a few times per week, and drinking water every day. In terms of caffeine, there really isn't that much in soda. It has about 1/3 of the amount of caffeine as coffee.
But you said you drink soda mostly because you like it, and I totally get that. For drinking more water, I brought a 20 oz. water bottle to work and made it my goal to finish 1 bottle per day. Then 2 bottles, then 3, and up. Slowly I got up to 4 bottles a day. Now I find that I like to drink water because it quenches my thirst so much better than soda does. But it was a very gradual process!
Some people suggest adding lemon or flavoring or something to their water, but for me, I either want water or I want juice. I don't want something in between (aka flavored water). But that's me - it does work for some people.

Decorate This
I've been drinking decaf tea at work, when I need some kind of drink (i.e. coffee). I won't lie I've had coffee (twice in three weeks), just not every day. I feel so much better, not as edgy.
Good luck.
Lots of good replies here. When I was pregnant and had to start drinking a lot more water, I used lemon crystals. You can find them next to the bottled lemon at the grocery store. They come in a packet like crystal light but it is dehydrated lemon juice (yeah, it doesn't sound right).
I always keep a 32 ounce water bottle on my desk. It is always my goal to finish one in a day. If I feel like I'm drinking too much coffee, I'll make myself drink X amount of water before I get another cup of coffee. Honestly, I don't need to drink 4 cups of coffee before 10 am. Really. I think it has become a physical habit associated with my desk at work though. So, I'm working on it.
ditto the suggestions to switch to seltzer/club soda. I love soda- but we bought a sodastream seltzer maker- instead of spending .80 on a liter of fizzy water.
I like bubbles!
