Cleaning and repetition

I've wanted to ask this for a long time. How do you deal with the monotonous repetition involved with cleaning?  Sometimes the repetition makes me feel like I'm stuck in a time loop, doing the same thing forever.  I know these are things that should be done, and I do them, but I get so bored and sick of doing them sometimes--it almost feels soul sucking sometimes.

Re: Cleaning and repetition

  • Sometimes I really enjoy cleaning.  Lately it's been a huge PITB because I'll bust my butt to get the kitchen/living room (where we spend 95% of our time) spotless, and literally the same freaking day it's a disaster again.  No advice, but know how you feel.
  • Other than not cleaning at all, I like getting new supplies to try out. That's really the only thing that gets me interested in cleaning.

  • i do it when he isnt home so that i can blare my music and sing and dance while i clean.. silly, yes... but it makes it a tad more entertaining!

  • I turn the music on loud and dance while cleaning. I also break down the areas. So I feel like I accomplished something. Plus for some weird reason, vaccuming relaxes me.

This exactly, I really enjoy the sound of a vaccum running! I know that some people turn cleaning into a game. They will set an egg timer for 15min and see how much they can get done before the timer goes off. Maybe you could make cleaning like a game and clean in time increments.

  • I like having a routine, but I usually make sure to listen to music or have some sort of noise going on in the background. If I'm doing something that takes awhile, but requires me to be in the same room-i.e. organizing, folding laundry, etc, I'll pop in a DVD and relax! I also take mini breaks too. For example, yesterday I did a big chunk of my spring cleaning. While I was waiting for the oven to self-clean, I just relaxed and went to visit my parents. It's better for me to do that as opposed to trying to do things back-to-back. I get burnt out that way.
