Moms/to be - show me your...

I should have been actively working on this months ago but I didn't and now I'm freaking out. If it's not too much trouble, please show me your crib/furniture set. Where did you buy it? What do you like/not like? How did you decide which set to purchase - (what was important? - cost, safety, appearance? all of the above?)

3 years ago I thought planning a wedding was difficult and a lot of work. I now feel that planning for a baby is a trillion times harder.  TIA!

  • We got this Convertible Baby Cache - Heritage Collection in Cherry.

    And the matching dresser/changer combo.

    1) We knew we wanted a convertible crib so that narrowed it down a little. 2) we knew what price point we didn't want to go over. 3) Then we looked at Baby Bargains for what brands were best rated in our price range and 4) then went to BRU to look at what they had and what we liked and then Nick actually picked this set.

I was happy with the delivery time (way faster than I expected) and the crib was pretty easy for Nick to put together and it's been easy for him to lower. I don't have any complaints about it so far.

My one recommendation is if you get a convertible crib, buy the conversion kit now. I've heard stories of people waiting until they actually needing it and it being discontinued and needing to come from overseas or being unavailable or taking forever to come in. As it was our conversion kit took 6 months to come in.

Then we just bought a regular old bookshelf from Target (in cherry) to complete his room.

however, the only thing that's new is the crib.  the dresser and nightstand are both antiques that we refinished and added new hardware to.  they were family heirlooms and it took all of 2 saturdays to accomplish.  the refinishing of the furniture was more our style but i never would have compromised her safety for it.  therefore, the crib we decided would be new.

safety was the number 1 priority and then of course appearance.  i also wanted a convertible one but not one that turned into a full size.  therefore, i narrowed my search down to a 3-way convertible.  this crib also came in 4-way though.

You can see our furniture here. We actually got it all from Kohl's(online).  Safety was number one but I also wanted a a convertible as well, just the 3 way. I love the changing table and that it has storage underneath it were the baskets are, it's so easy to reach in and grab diapers/wipes/lotions, etc. Our rocking chair was a family heirloom. I also suggest a darkening curtain or shade. I got all of our bedding at JC Penny because it was on sale there and no where else.

  • Mine is similar to Summer's it is the Babi Italia Eastside collection in Cherry. We got it from BRU during the trade in event along with a dresser. The room we are using for the nursery is too small or we would have gotten the lower changing table/dresser too but just got the tall one. It is a convertible and we bought the kit to go along with it. GMIL actually bought the crip for us though. It's all very well made.

It got really good reviews in Baby Bargains (we almost got the Europa one but it didn't come in a finish we liked - same manufacturer)

If I remember correctly you got the Baby Bargains book right? Maybe I am making that up in my head I'm not sure but reading the chapter on cribs helped me a bunch and put my mind at ease about a few things. There are so many strict guidelines in place these days that most cribs out there are really decent products.

  • Ours is also the Eastside crib, but the non-convertible one: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3711225

After a year, there are some places where the paint is kind of wearing off (where Jacob hangs onto it when he's awake) and there is a piece that looks like the wood might have a small crack, but I'm pretty sure that no one would notice if they weren't staring at it, looking for problems.

We got it b/c it doesn't have MDF (particle board, which has formaldehyde in it) and it's a brand that recommended in Baby Bargains. It arrived within a week after buying it at BRU.

We have a changing table that looks like this: http://www.amazon.com/Dream-Me-Emily-Changing-Table/dp/B004EPYS5K/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1301661862&sr=8-5 But I don't think that's it. I wanted one with a railing. We have bins of clothes and diapers on the shelves and a cabinet next to it that has all the creams, wipes, etc (http://www.amazon.com/ClosetMaid-898800-Laminate-Stacker-Organizer/dp/B002IT6E60/ref=pd_sim_hg_10)

And the rest of his clothes and items are stored in cubes with fabric drawers, like this one: http://www.amazon.com/ClosetMaid-898000-Stackable-Laminate-Organizer/dp/B001UTTZEW/ref=pd_sim_hg_6

We have a dresser that we'll give to him when he's older, but for now I'm using it for my clothes :P

Yes, I have it but I haven't made it to that section yet. I'm slow.

  • Here's my crib:

I chose it b/c it had few to no negative reviews, and it was relatively inexpensive.

Also, it comes with a conversion kit to the toddler and day bed.  We would have to buy bed rails to make it a double bed.

Mine is this collection as well, but our dresser is more like Summers. I liked the price and the fact that it did not have a drop side. The converter kit is $70, and I still have to buy that. I'm kinda hoping not to get the converter kit for the toddler bed, because I would like to get Xander a 'big boy' bed before we have a second and then just use our crib for #2. I will say that the crib and dresser have held up great and have no damage even with my little guy climbing all over them.

  • we got the DaVinci Emily crib from diapers.com...u can also get it at BRU and Target.  It comes with the half rail to make it into a toddler daybed, and then u can buy the conversion stuff to make it a double bed.  It is really pretty! The dresser/changing table is just the matching dresser to our bedset from Ikea (she is sleeping in our room, so we wanted things to go together).

***The mattress really doesn't go up that high...we put the hinges on the wrong way at first lol***

and we just got the crib when i was 35 weeks, so don't feel behind Stick out tongue

  • We did a convertible also and followed a lot of what Summer did with Baby Bargains, also a local nestie has the same bed and had nothing but good things to say about it.

We knew we wanted a convertible and will do the same if we havea second, it's not the cheapest option but if all works out well we won't have to think about a bed again and I found the stain we picked pretty easy to match with other furniture. I also like the idea of a Toddler bed. I will admit our crib was a gift from DH's grandmother, if we were on a tight budget and had to buy ourselves we may not have been able to swing it. Though the trade in event at BRU was a nice chunk of savings and we did immediatedly purchase the conversion kit.
