Is this rude?

I didn't *love* the pictures my realtor took of my house, but they're decent so I let it go.

Well, during a showing yesterday I heard someone say how much better the house looks in person than in the pictures. They said "the pictures were just, ehh." I know how important pictures are and now I'm wondering if other people haven't even given the house a second glance because of the pictures online.

Is it rude of me to take my own pictures ask the realtor to post those instead of his?

Re: Is this rude?

  • No, not at all! This is business! For myself, looking for a house to buy right now, if I don't like the pics I see, then I won't go look at it.
  • I don't think it's rude. I know when I house shop, pictures are a big deal to me.

  • It's not rude at all. I work at a commercial real estate agency. We take a lot of our own photos, but we also have owners that bring us photos. It's your property and you are paying them to do a good job. If you didn't like the photos, that part of their job was not fulfilled.

I would just say something like, "I cleaned the house again and took some more photos. Do you mind replacing the current photos with these?" Or something about getting a better angle of the rooms. You don't want to hurt your relationship with him, but you deserve good quality.

  • NOT RUDE AT ALL.  Your realtor wants his 3%, right?

  • Nope, your house and you want to sell it. Use what a potential buyer said as your reasons for this. I highly doubt the realtor will refuse you.

  • I agree with the others - not rude at all. Pictures can make or break it, and it sounds like it could be breaking it for some of your potential buyers. I like pp's suggestion about "we cleaned house and got some new photos" angle, but definitely replace them if you feel it's not up to par. I'd do it.

Oh! I like that idea! And we did take some furniture out this weekend and cleaned out the closets and stuff, so I'll just tell him that and we want the pictures to show that. Good idea!

Thanks ladies. Maybe I'm slightly over analytical about these kind of things, I just don't want to offend them in the slightest.

    Got it and replied.

  • I agree with PPs - I don't think it's rude at all.  But if you're worried about stepping on toes, I think the comment about having changed some stuff around in the house would work well.  Hope your house sells soon!
