Maybe taboo?

So, this is jumping ahead a little, but if all goes well with this pregnancy, my DH has agreed to have a vasectomy.  So, my questions are:  anyone have any recommendations of who to see (is this done by a urologist?) 2) Should I still take some form of birth control, just to be sure, or is this a pretty guaranteed thing?  I have heard that it is pretty much 100%, but if you have any thoughts that you would like to share, I am all ears.  (I have heard that you need to, hmmm... give it a few times before you are good to go).

Not trying to pull out info from those uncomfortable sharing, just thought I would ask, since I saw the IUD post (I would do that, but I am old, and we are settled with only wanting 2 kids).

Re: Maybe taboo?

  • my husband went to dr. glowacki at the iowa clinic.  it was an outpatient, 20-minute procedure and a weekend with frozen peas :).  his doc advised a 3-4 month of continuing birth control, and also recommended he do a semen sample to rest our minds (because it's not 100%).

he liked the bed-side manner of his doc (obviously he was a bit scared and uncomfortable!).  in the middle of the procedure my husband said, "So, how many have you done?" and Dr. Glowacki said, "Shouldn't you have asked me before I started?"  hehe.

That is awesome!  Stick out tongue  He sounds like a personable guy (and that is a good thing in his line of work, I am sure!).  Thanks for the reply, nice to know that it isn't worse than that.  20 mins is WAY shorter than I thought it would take!!!

  • My DH is set to have his vasectomy in a few weeks by Dr. Glowacki at the Iowa Clinic. I''ll let you know how it goes but I do know when I went to my OB for my 6 week checkup after Brody he STRONGLY advised that DH go back for the semen analysis and keep going back if necessary until it reaches zero. He said that only 25% of  men return for the analysis and he sees lots of women in his office pregnant post vasectomy because they didn't take the necessary precautions!
