***SEE ABOVE - A GTG DAY/TIME HAS BEEN SET.***
It seems there is interest in a GTG...wadya think? Should we do one for realsies?
Here's what I'm thinking... Knitters bring their knitting needles. Crocheters bring their crochet hooks. Readers bring some good book recommendations. Travelers bring pictures of your most recent fun trip. Moms bring adorable pictures of your baby(ies)...or dogs, hah! Bakers bring a treat and a few copies of a recipe. Etc, etc. I'm picturing something super duper casual. Maybe everyone could bring a small treat?
I called a couple of churches to see if they have rooms to use and they DO, but it's actually $$$. Does anyone have a party room at an apartment complex we could use? Or maybe you know of a restaurant or other type of place that has a space?
OR....throw out any other ideas. ???
If enough interest is shown I can do a poll about dates and times.
So....you wanna? Yes or no.
Re: Poll: Wanna do a GTG?
Yes.
I was at Starbucks last Sunday with a girlfriend and there was a group of ladies knitting - I was so jealous that I was too shy to ask them to help me as I still know nothing.
Edit: Glueks downtown has a free party room (and wonderful drinks and snacks), but happy hour specials don't apply if you use it...
yes!
I would vote for a restaurant's room...if it's doable. A lot of them would probably have minimums to meet though.
It looks like Park Tavern in St. Louis Park has a couple of rooms that are free to use. Food service in those rooms is available.
that's a good location. relatively central and if people want to keep hanging out, they could bowl or do karaoke in the bar.
That's right!
What's the consensus: Do you like Kinsey or Stephanie better? :-)
True. It would be an ALL-ENCOMPASSING GTG! *said in deep booming voice*
It is scary for about 20 seconds and then it's not. :-)
i still like stephanie better. but maybe it's because she's hittin it with ranger occasionally and ranger is totally sexy.
Kiz is right. She and strength are super good at putting people at ease and making them feel welcome and comfortable. Something about their personalities is just calming.
I'd probably go... Sounds fun.
Where are the ML folks having theirs? Maybe we could steal their location?
Davinni's has rooms available too. I think they ask for a $5 per person minimum, but they dont' enforce it. As long as you buy something they don't really care.
That is really sweet. Thank you. :-)
Usually I feel like I'm a bumbling idiot because I get nervous and run my mouth, haha! :-)
The ML GTG is at Ciao Bella. It sounds like a smaller group though. Usually GTGs from this board get pretty big!
this is SOOOOO me at GTG's.
So, feel free to tell me to STFU.
Tom Reid's in St Paul has a room with a super low minimum, if I remember right. they have 2 for 1's on friday nights. very sporty though.
I don't think SLP is central at all, FWIW, but I'm an Eastsider.

Truth be told I looked up Park Tavern cuz it's 3 minutes from my house!
To me St. Paul is on the other side of the world, haha.
Honestly it doesn't matter to me where it is. :-) If Brifox can come to a GTG at Strength's house all the way from Duluth then we can all certainly drive a few miles! :-)
I'm game. I think I'm brave enough :-)
I'll go to SLP. It doesn't seem central to me either, but it's fine. Since I'm in Rosemount, pretty much any place will be a drive for me. Any 'burb that's convenient for me would not be convenient for the group as a whole.
I think Park Tavern would be fine - nice and casual.

Reid's has REALLY good food too!
Eagle Street Grille has a basement room they let groups reserve (we had a hockey message board GTG there a few years ago), but I don't know if there is a minimum.
FWIW, i live in eagan but i think anything that's inside the 694/494 loop is a reasonable location.
Thanks for the reassurance. I'm a bumbling fool when I'm nervous! I'll get halfway through a (probably pointless) story and not remember why I brought it up.... ugh.
I think we are our own worst critic so I'm sure none of us really sound as idiotic as we think. (I hope that's the case anyway!)
I've never been to a GTG anyway, unlike Melinda, I'm just as bitchy in person and so assume it's best I stay home.

Sounds like a great location & a great idea
Have we met before? I went to a hockey message board GTG in the basement of Eagle Street Grille a few years ago too....
I would love to also go, and FWIW I also don't consider SLP central, but have truck will travel. I always think of Roseville as being pretty central, but I'll go wherever.
