Help! I just got the responsibility of planning my grandmother's 90 b-day party. Given we have a small family - me, my dad, and my cousin (male), I guess it makes sense that I am in charge. The party is next weekend (yep next weekend). She lives in a very rural small town (think Wal-mart is the only place in town to shop). The party will be in the town community center. What food should I serve? I am thinking just a little nicer than a cake and punch reception. The party is from 2-4 on Sunday and they are expecting maybe 100 people. A general annoucement will be made in the local paper, so no RSVPs.
What would you serve?
I am thinking cake, punch, fruit tray, veggie tray, other desserts (probably cookies), small croissant sandwiches. What else?

Thanks. I meant to add a cheese platter to the list.
Amelia is going to be a big sister!
I'm just boggling at the idea that you have to plan a 100 person party in a freakin' week. I'd fall over.
I'd do any sort of apps that wouldn't take much effort - will you have oven access? Mini hot dogs are filling and easy. Deviled eggs. And don't forget crackers for with the cheese!

I am too. My dad and cousin (they are both much closer to my grandmother than I am) decided at the last minute to have the party. Neither one of them needs to be in charge of a party, so I kinda volunteered to take over.
It is a much different crowd that my circle of friends, so I think that I should be able to pull it off. We bought tons of stuff for our reception party so I plan on using those serving pieces, vases, etc.
I like the idea of cheese and crackers, pigs in a blanket, cookies, punch, veggie platter, and what about a cold cut platter, so you don't have to make sandwichs, just get little dinner rolls to go with it.

You could do a chicken salad, egg salad, and tuna salad w/ rolls and lettuce/tomato/onion on a platter.
Cake, cookies/brownies
I'm getting hungry....

What about the puff pastry things? I don't know how you feel about store bought but I get mine at Sam's because who has the time to make those. Also, what about roll up's or pinwheel type things?
Shrimp tray? That can be pricey, especially for that many people. You should definitely have things you can eat too!

BBQ Meatballs in a crockpot. You could borrow someone's crockpot to have two going at the same time to make more too.
Don't do deviled eggs, they'll just make everyone fart.
