Yes, I know there is a specific Decorating board (and I may post there eventually), but I like/trust you ladies better so figured I'd start here. ![]()
I want to spend some effort decorating my bedroom (on a VERY tight budget). MH and I have lived together for 9 years and I feel like our bedrooms have always been an afterthought. Not that the rest of our apartments/homes have been really decorated nicely, but our bedroom always seems to be a place where junk is stored, clothes are thrown all over, papers are piled, etc. Not relaxing, romantic, tranquil or anything you would want in a bedroom.
Our bedroom right now has NOTHING in it that I want to keep, except for the bed and our comforter. We have a chocolate brown solid color comforter. I really like blue/brown/gold or silver/cream color for a bedroom. I'm just having a hard time figuring out how to incorporate the color.
Any suggestions on what color we should make the walls, curtains, accessories, furniture (most likely I will be getting craigslist or yard sale furniture...headboard, night tables and dresser and painting them myself so they all look somewhat the same).
Re: Who wants to help me decorate my gross bedroom?
light blueish silver walls?
warm accent lighting that washes the walls?
silver and light brown accent pillows?
light blue damask print pillow shams?
light tan, white, or light blue sheets?
this rug?

I just did a quick google images search for blue brown bedroom and found a ton of nice rooms:
here's one with a darker beige wall
- you could definitely do blue or gold accents, swapping out their beige bedspread for your dark brown
- paint the walls any shade of blue really...or a lighter beige...or do an accent wall
what is your style? I know this is kind of modern, which I like, but not everyone's into...I love looking up these kinds of things...
we did a ton of decorating in our old apartment, but we refuse to put the same money and time into this one...someday when we have our own home...
I found the Sherwin Williams web site really helpful-- you can upload a photo of your room and then put colours all over the place to see what it'd look like.
I am a HUGE fan of blue and brown (my bedroom, actually, has darker blue walls with espresso brown accents). And I LOVE my acrylic wall design. Best money I ever spent on a room-- really ties it all together and makes it unique!
oooh, I love decorating! I can't say that I'm all that great and certainly use the internet for ideas. Based on your thoughts already, I'm picturing a light blue on the wall, with dark furniture. Maybe navy blue bedding/curtains. Gold accents in the tie backs, lampshades, etc. Our BR is similar but we have a wrought iron bed frame and silver accents.
Danielle - we might need to see that design again!!
I can try and post a PIP, but it's on my FB page, too.
And I prefer nickel/silver accents instead of gold with blue and brown, but I'm not a huge gold person in general...
I really like the photos on the wall in this!
I'm going to have to look it up on your FB page!
Yes, I like the nickel/silver too. Some kind of shimmery accent with the blue/brown I think will look nice!
OK so here is what I am thinking
Brown comforter
Blue/brown pillows similar to what grahamsm posted
Black headboard
Light/medium Blue walls
Curtains- no clue- do they have to match the bedspread??
Night tables and dresser- I worry if I paint them black like the headboard it may look too dark. Would it be weird to paint them cream color (and still paint the headboard black)?
Accessories- silver/platinum lamps and handle pulls on dresser and night stands. Maybe also silver/platinum picture frames
You could paint the night tables and dressers with a lighter colour underneath the black and then weather the black layer on top so that it's not quite black. You could end up with a really nice brown-black that way...
Or you could do all the furniture in a more cherry/mahogany stain. That always looks nice and rich with the browns and blues...
I'm kind of liking curtains in this pale off-white shade to add lightness to the room...I, personally, would keep the furniture darker, so this would help the room feel less dark (especially if you always keep your window open just enough to provoke the flowy, billowy affect shown here
)
I'd probably go with cherry, mahagony or espresso rather than mix black and light furniture. Our room has pale blue walls, navy curtains, and espresso furniture. I mostly love it! I would have gone for a lighter curtain or some gold accents but MH likes dark, heavy curtains to keep light out and hates gold or silver accents.
