  • Thanks everyone!

Honestly, I'm not at all shocked - given the family history, my age, my insatiable sweet tooth, etc...but it still kinda bums me out.  I'll have to go see the maternal fetal medicine docs next week and figure out where I go from there.  I'm not looking forward to pricking my finger 4x a day, a restrictive diet...none of that!  But it is what it is and could be a lot worse.  After working in hospitals for nearly 10 years, one of my best friend's moms being an L& D nurse for many years (at TTH), etc.  I honesty know how much worse it could be.  but darnit...do I really have to give my thin mints a rest???

  • Pricking your finger gets old, but if you get a one of the lancing devices with the really thin lancets, it's not so bad, and always always always use it on the lowest setting you can and use the sides of the tips of your finger not the pad. It took me awhile to figure that out the first time I had GD. If you use the lancing device on the pads of your fingers it will hurt like a b!tch.

The diet really isn't that bad, it's just hard to get into the swing of it at first because you really have to think about what you can and can't eat and how many carbs it is. And you can still have your thin mints, you just have to limit yourself to a few. I actually still follow my GD diet now, after having it twice (and knowing I'll most likely have it again when we have #3)  I know I need to be eating better because I'm at an increased risk for type 2 diabetes, which also runs in my family.
