Dinner Help

Ok. So I bought ham steaks. I have bought them in the past and every time I make them they come out dry. Here is what I do. 350 degree oven. Ham steaks on a cookie sheet. Pour honey on top. Cook for 20ish minutes.

I want to do something different and I don't know what. I just don't want them to be dry. Any suggestions? I have no pineapple in the house, which is why I tend to use honey as a "glaze".

Thanks ladies.

Re: Dinner Help

  • Are they pre-cooked?  If so I usually just heat them up in a small skillet for a few minutes until heated.
  • Yes. Pre-cooked. I do not have a skillet. I have frying pans. I think that's the same thing? My husband likes them to be flavored somehow.
  • skillet = frying pan  :)

When I have ham like that I either microwave it or put it on the grill (in the summer).

Allrecipes.com has some recipes for ham glaze that look tasty.  Obviously scale back the quantity if you're not cooking a whole ham.

  • They are probably being overcooked.  You could do the same, just decrease the cook time...maybe 10 mins?

  • yes, not an electric skillet just a plain old shallow frying pan :)  I think you are just cooking it too long.
  • We tend to use pineapple, but you could do a mustard glaze, brown sugar. They don't need to be cooked long at all. I also usE a ham steak when I make pork fried rice. Dice it up and add it to the rice mixture.

I would fry them in the pan just to warm them and get a little color on them, and then maybe in separate small pot make a little glaze with the brown sugar and mustard like Maeghan suggested.  Then glaze the suckers; that sounds good to me!

This is what I do and ham always turns out great!
