Annoyed with my family.

My brother that is 19 still lives with his mom. Last time I was there living in their 3br house was my stepmom, my brother, my dads sister and step moms brother (who has his 16 and 18 year old sons every other weekend) plus 3 cats, a st bernard, a lab mix and a boston/pug mix. My brother posted on FB today that he got a puppy. I send him a message asking where they plan to keep another dog... he tells me they took Buddy to the humane society.

Buddy is the lab who is probably pushing 10... he was the shop dog at the shop my dad used to work at and when they closed he didn't have anywhere to go, so he went home with my dad and that was like 6 years ago...  I wish that we had room for him, he is such a sweet dog. I really hope he finds a good home. I am very angry and sad that she got rid of him just to go out and get another puppy.

Re: Annoyed with my family.

  • And these are the kind of people who shouldn't be allowed to have animals.

  • I agree 100%. My little sister is the same way... she has big dogs and put no effort in to training them so they are out of control. She has a pitt/boxer mix and an american bulldog.

  • OMG that is just horrible. I really don't have words.
  • I would be more than annoyed, I'd be FURIOUS.   I know you feel the same, so I won't waste my time ranting, lol. :)

  • That happens more than you think.  Some actually surrender an older dog at the back door of the HS, then walk around to the front and ask "where are the puppies?"  They are turned away from adopting if the surrender was not for a very few specific reasons, but then they probably go to the Blade classifieds and find a puppy mill dog anyway :(

I hope Buddy has no medical or behavior issues because most HS don't have the resources or space to treat a 10yr old dog.  Though even if he's sweet and healthy and adoptable, he'll likely spend 3-6 months in a cold cement kennel waiting for a family, because of his age and common breed.

  • I can empathize.  My SIL gave us her dog a few months ago because she "couldn't take care of it" then turned around a got a lab puppy.  I was literally speechless when I found that out.  Some people are so heartless.  These poor dogs rely on their owners and trust us for everything.  They have to wonder what they did wrong when they are abandoned.  Makes me sad.

My dad got an earful yesterday. I know they aren't married anymore, but Buddy came from his shop so I decided to rant at him about it anyway since he's the one that left the dog there.
