Parker uses a paci right? When does he typically want it? Or when do u offer it to him? Thx!

Re: Heather

  • Yep.  He'll take it whenever, but generally he likes to suck after he eats and before he goes to bed.  We know he's tired when the paci falls out and he doesn't wake up from that.  I fear that he'll be the kid that is hard to break from the paci, he really really likes it.  Which is of course why that darn thing is in just about every pic of him!

  • How soon did he start? Did he have any trouble BFing then? Carly likes to suck too so we already use the gumdrop the hospital gave us. I just ordered more gum drops bc of course she doesn't like the others we have, lol
  • They gave it to him in the hospital after his circumcision, so right away.  I can't really say about the breastfeeding since we had issues with the latch before he was given a paci.  They do say to wait to introduce a bottle for a while if you're bf'ing to keep from getting nipple confusion, so I'm not sure if it's the same with a paci?   Sorry I'm not more help on that question!

May used a paci from the get-go, too, because she couldn't feed right away and had a very strong sucking reflex. She used it when falling asleep or in "stressful" situations (like new situations) and I usually used it to pull her off when she started comfort sucking after finishing nursing. It did not cause any issues with us nursing or with a bottle. We just stopped using it last Tuesday (the babysitter lost the only one we had left and we were planning to wean her at 6 months anyway...so we quit cold turkey).

  • Thanks ladies. Heather, what did u do to fix the latch?
