This may seem dumb, but I really don't know what to do! One of the girls at work is pregnant and the owner is throwing her a baby shower (I work in a rather small office - 30 people. I've worked for the company for 2.5 yrs and with this coworker for about 1.5 yrs). How much is a good amount to spend (I don't want to be looking like a cheap a$$). She register but has had 2 showers and said that no ones gifts were taken off the registry (which when I looked at them there is like 10 things missing off both her registries) so I don't know what she needs or doesn't (I mean I know the basics as I have 2 kids, but you only need so many bottles/paci's/blankets).
I was thinking about making a diaper cake but I've never made one, don't know what needs to be included or how to make one.
So, what do you ladies think is an acceptable amount. Any great ideas?
Re: Baby Shower Gift
A diaper cake can get pricy. If you want to buy something off the registry I would spend maybe $30 to max $40?
One thing pretty popular on the bump are those month onsie stickers. You can get them from pickysticky.com for about $15. One thing I love is my Homedics Sound Spa=it was about $20 at Buy Buy Baby.
A Sleep Sheep is a good gift. I'll keep thinking.
I agree with 30 to 40 dollars unless she is a good friend outside of work. Can some of the other coworkers go in together and get something big like a high chair or something?
One of my favorite items (and Peyton's) is her activity mat. That would be something "fun" you could get. There are so many different varieties so I'm sure you could get a relatively nice one for under 40 bucks.
I have a diaper cake tutorial in my blog (see siggy). If you have specific questions about it after reading it just let me know. I make them all the time as gifts so I can definitely help you. I have to say, they are a HUGE hit (I got one at my work shower) and are so so so awesome.
ETA: Diaper cakes are only as pricey as you make them. For very good friends I spend $60+, but I can make one for $40 or less. You really only need 60 diapers which equals 2 size 1 packs of diapers (Pampers). I got them at Target dirt cheap on sale and with coupons. Ribbon at Michaels for $1 (need 1). A few toys and baby items to add and you can totally do it for less than $40 no problem.

Oh! I just thought about another fun one. How about getting a baby bath tub and filling it with some bath essentials: wash cloths, shampoo, lotion, maybe she registered for a small grooming kit?, etc, and putting a rubber ducky or some cute bath toy in there too.
You could put some blue easter grass in the bottom for "water" so that you don't have to buy too much stuff to fill it.
I would spend around 35-40 dollars. A bunch of small things usually help out. They will always need diapers and baby onesies are great. A neat idea for onesie were these monthly onesie stickers that was a huge hit at a baby shower I was at. They were affordable and I had never heard of them but they are a new thing that new moms get for each new month. she got them from. a site in etsy from the seller onesiestickers.
