Hi ladies! it's been a busy week and i can't believe that my lil man is already over a week old! We are all doing well. We are working on getting a routine down for feedings and sleeping. Breast feeding isn't going to well. We are having a hard time latching and then Drake gets really fustrated which in return makes me upset ( even though i try really hard to not get upset). We are going to give it another week or so and see how it goes trying a few different things. anyways....
I went in for my induction as planned Friday March 25th at 8pm. My cervix still wasn't thinned or softened so i was given suppositories to ripen my cervix. Within about 45 minutes i was having regular contractions at 2 min apart. By midnight i was a finger tip dilated. I was supposed to recieve two doses of the suppository but only needed the one to get things going. So they started the pitocin. I was having contractions so fast that drakes heart rate would drop really low then spike up high again, so i had to go from side to side every 30 minutes and be on oxygen the rest of the time until i delievered. At about 3 am i got a walking epid. and by 6 am i went for the full epid. due to the contractions being so close i just couldn't hold out any longer i hadn't slept and my sides were killing me. At around 1pm i was at 3 cm the contractions seemed to get stronger by the mintue and my epid was only really working on my right side, my left side felt half numb but the pain was still super intense. at 3 pm my doctor came in to break my water and when she did she looked at me and smiled and said guess what? your at a 9! I was shocked. about 30-40 minutes later i knew i needed to start pushing and i called the RN she checked me and said it was time. I pushed for about an hour and just like that it was over and they put the love of my life on my chest as kevin cut the cord, i didn't cry but i was in complete shock. i remember just staring at him feeling the most warmth I had ever felt in my life.
The best moment was watching kevin wrap drake up in the blanket and pick him up and just stare into his eye. I wanted to hold that moment in my heart forever. I had never seen my husband so in love with another person his love was so strong you could see it just pouring off of him. It made me feel so good to give him such a wonderful gift.
During the time i was pushing Kevin thought he'd be funny....he had been watching a basketball game on the tv and i was using different things around the room to focus on while pushing. At one point i was looking at the tv, not watching the game but just kinda zoning in on the tv itself. and Kevin had noticed and asked me " hey babe, what's the score?" all the RN's and Doctors look at him then to me of course Kevin has a huge grin on his face....i told him the score with one finger
everyone laughed me included.
Over all things went really well for an induction. The doctor was really suprised that it went as fast as it did since i wasn't dilated at all when i came in. I even got to go home the very next day. I am already wearing my normal jeans ( only two pairs) and my tummy is almost gone. YAY!!!!!
Note to all other pregnant ladies... don't be afraid of labor. I was and it totally wasn't as bad as i though. Yes it hurt, but once baby is here you won't care. You won't forget the pain, it just won't matter. ![]()
sorry so long.
Re: BR: Drake's birth story
Thanks for posting your story. I agree with Kass and am glad it went okay because I know you were worried about it and rightfully so! I saw some pictures of on facebook, he is very cute!
Sorry breastfeeding is pretty challenging. We had a very hard time at first as well because he wouldn't latch. We ended up working with a lactation consultant a few times and it was a huge help and we also used a shield. Not sure if you have already looked into these options but they are definitely worth a try.
