Where to list a rental?

H and I are trying to rent out a condominium in South Tampa. He is making no effort in getting it rented because he is "too busy." He has it listed at his old real estate office so that obviously is not going to do much. He also does not want it on Craigslist. He thinks Craigslist is shady, but I think lots of people would look for an apartment on there!! Any ideas of places I can try to get it rented? He put me in charge because I won't stop complaining. It has been empty far too long!

And in case anyone is interested :)

It is a 2 bedroom 1 bath with washer/dryer. Screened in porch in a gated community near Westshore Plaza. (Called Sienna Villas) Pool, fitness center, clubhouse, etc. Asking $900/month for rent. Dogs allowed under a certain weight limit. Approx. 900 square feet.

Probably impossible to sell at this point, but that is also an option!!

Re: Where to list a rental?

  • My father has 7 properties, 5 of them rented out. Of the 5 renters we have we found 4 on craigslist and they had been great renters. The 1 we didnt go through craigslist on is the shady character, she still hasnt paid all of March's rent and Aprils was due yesterday with no payment coming in. He is going to have to go downtown and have her evicted.
  • I think CL is a good option, I always look there when looking for rentals for myself or friends!

    Also Hotpads...

Good luck, when you have a listing up of CL or wherever let us know I'll post it on my facebook/twitter etc. I know there are a few ppl moving back to Tampa right now, I'm constantly seeing status updates about moving looking for apartments etc.

  • I've used CL before to rent and highly recommend it.  We also manage rental properties (4 homes) for our out-of-state BFFs and we use CL exclusively to list/find renters.  In the last 10 renters, only 1 had to be evicted.

I know Facebook has a classifieds place, there's always the paper, and you could try finding a local place to hang signs/information.

  • I have a couple of rental websites I have been looking at....if you want I can forward you the email with the links?

  • Is it listed in MLS yet?  That's how we found our current place.  I also ditto the PPs about listing on Craigslist.  We definitely looked there when we were searching.  I can't think of a good reason not to do that since it adds to your audience.  If your H is worried about the reputability of potential renters you can always ask for references and run a credit check.  There's really only so much you can do at the end of the day.  You won't know if someone is a good tenant until they actually move in.
