Is this really that confusing?

So this is the invitation to the shower that I'm helping host in Dallas (it was printed and then put on one of those little black foldover things with a hot pink ribbon)

image

And then there's a little registry card included.

People are having a hard time understand what's going on.

Her aunt called her and said "I got an invitation for a tea or something for someone named Jessica, but the return address was a girl in California and I don't know anyone in California." Jessica's reply was "How many Jessicas do you know marrying a British guy this year?" So her aunt says "Oh, is this for your shower? I guess there's registry information. But it doesn't say it's a shower." Jessica straightened her out.

And then I've gotten at least for responses that all say something along the lines of

"I got your invitation for tea...I guess that's her shower? Haha...anyway...."

Did I need to say "We're having an afternoon tea themed shower to celebrate Jessica Lastname's upcoming wedding." ?

Re: Is this really that confusing?

  • Maybe people are overly traditional in TX?  I can't believe people wouldn't understand what's going on!
  • People get very attached to terminology. When you don't use the one term they know, they flip out. They probably were afraid it was in addition to the shower. Sorry it's been so annoying to deal with.
  • I don't think it's confusing but then again I can't even get people to RSVP to the showers that I have thrown lately so I'm no help!

  • Oh you have no idea. I get so many whackball calls from people at work who have major reading comprehension problems -- otherwise intelligent people. It's like they skim and never slow down to understand something. It doesn't really surprise me, frankly.

That's a really good point, I catch myself doing this a lot. Luckily for me, when something doesn't make sense I read through it a few more times before getting all crazy.

  • I would have been able to put two and two together but some people need it spelled out. See passanie's response above  :)
  • I think it's clear but maybe those texans are different.

    that's a good point.

And you could blame it on them being texans, except one chick is in alaska and a few are in florida and her family is in seattle....

ironically the people who needed no explanation are the mother and sister of the groom, who live in the UK but will be in town for other reasons and will be attended. THEY totally got it.

    Amen Sista!

  • I totally thought of this post this morning! This woman called me up to tell me I had given the wrong corner to a new thrift shop I had written about. She told me all about how she drove all over corner a and b, when it was really corner x and y and we need to run a correction. Checked the paper and uh... we had it correct, corner x and y. She must have written it down wrong or read it wrong or something, but how nice of her to point out my non-mistake.
