I was wondering what some of you do/take for your allergies. Zyrtec just doesn't seem to cut it all the time any more and Bill has talked about the two of us going to an allergist and maybe taking shots. I don't really want to do that.
Re: Allergies?
I do Zyrtec everyday and just started the liquid gels. I don't really care for claritin and my doc says Zyrtec is stronger than claritin.
I'm pretty sure I am having an allergic reaction right now and have been since the beginning of March and I've given the thought to go get tested as well since this happened the same time 2 years ago but I could not do the shots myself, no way. I will eventually get myself to the doctor and meanwhile I am adjusting what I think I could be allergic to. If you are as bad as you seem (from what you write) I would give it a try and maybe see if they can prescribe you something other than a shot.
Zyrtec and Allegra are worthless to me. Don't work at all.
My allergist gave me Omnaris and it has changed my life, I have another one I take at night that's name escapes me. She said that shots are an option, but that if the nasal sprays control it then there is no need unless I just WANT to. (Side Note: Omnaris is STUPID expensive and not covered by most insurance plans....)
Another quick fix for me that I relied on most of my life is Children's Liquid Benadryl. It works immediately, but only for about two hours.
I have friends that are doing/have done the shots and they either don't work... or a few years later the allergies come back.
Ick. I hate sprays that go up your nose. I had something in a blue and white bottle once and just stopped taking it. I would go on a never-ending sneezing spree after taking it as well.
Julie-
I wouldn't recommend allergy shots. They're expensive, and don't really help, at least in my experience. I took them for 10 years as a child. I would go twice a week. And you have to sit there for 30 minutes after they give you the shot, to make sure you don't have a reaction. So it's a time killer, too. Things may have changed since I used to take them, though.
But I found that my allergies were actually better once I got off the shots. Maybe part of that was just growing up.
But, just my 2 cents.
It makes me a little sad to not see you over on TK ladies!!
That's all

Thanks, everyone, for the information. I don't want to do the shots for the reasons mentioned so I may put my foot down on that.
Brianna,
I'll admit it feels weird to come here but I know you understand.
