Help me pick out a dress - PIP

So I need something to wear for my confirmation later this month. I would prefer to stay under $50. It needs to be relatively conservative, so not too short, low cut, or halter. I've been looking at a few dresses on Dress Barn. What do you think?

I like this shape, but I think the lace may look cheap.

This is nice, but I can't tell if it's too dark for spring, and if it's too skimpy for church. If I got this, I would probably wear a small cardi with it.

I think this dress is adorable, but is it too loud for a relatively solemn event? If it matters, there will be a large party thrown afterwards, and since it's a Catholic church there will be an open bar. Stick out tongue

Or should I go super conservative church girl with something like this?

Halp! If you have any other suggestions, please send them my way.

Re: Help me pick out a dress - PIP

  • Personally I like the louder flower dress. I would wear a Cardigan over it while in church and take it off afterward for the party. I think it's a really pretty dress that you would be able to wear a lot.

  • I like #2 with a cardi. It's a pretty dress, you can take the cardi off for the party, and could potentially wear it again.

  • i don't think a confirmation is a solemn event...it's something to celebrate. with that being said, i think you should go for #3 but with a cardi for the actual service.
  • I love the last one!

If you're looking for a white dress, I came across 9zillion of them last week at TJMaxx on 41/Cumberland. I was looking for a R.D. dress so anything NOT white and I found plenty of them!

I ended up with a white/blue/turquoise pattened dress and mrBAMF actually said to me on the way to dinner "you should wear stuff like that more often". Yes

  •  what about something like this dress ($18 at target)

    image

with this cardigan? (also $18 at target).

  • the target dress also comes in black, which would look amazing with this cardigan.

  • Thanks Hales, but that is shorter than what I am comfortable with. I wouldn't want it to be any shorter than the top of my knee. :) Thank you though!

See, I'm leaning towards the floral printed dress cuz it's so pretty and feminine. I just don't want to look like a doofus if everyone else is wearing something more toned down.

  • Another vote for #3. Super cute!!

  • I like #2. Have you checked out Ann Taylor Loft? I know they were having a sale but I'm not sure if it is still going on
  • I like #3, but I'm not sure I'd wear it for confirmation. Plus, it looks as short as hales' dress to me. I'm catholic and have been to a bunch of these - I'd go with #4. It's no fun feeling uncomfortable about how you dressed, and there will be lots of pictures, too.

  • this dress is BEAUTIFUL in person, if you could find a cardigan to over it...and don't mind strapless.

Thanks Hales, but I'm not really comfortable with strapless. Even with a cardi, it's obvious when you're wearing a strapless dress. Sorry, I don't mean to discount all your advice! :)

Lauren, I think you're probably right. Le sigh.

  • Oh, and for the amusement factor, my Mom thought I should wear something like this.

chadwicks of all places...i got a few dresses from them a few years ago and they've held up really well...it's $60, but google for coupon codes, i never paid full price for things from them.

    it also comes in yellow.

  • have you tried looking at Belk? my mom took me shopping there this weekend and bought me 5 dresses!!
  • I guess I need to hit up the stores this weekend!

(Grew up Catholic) This looks like what I wore for first communion in the first grade. I think for confirmation in the 8th grade, we wore a "nice Sunday dress."
