s/o baptism, help me find a cute cake/PIP?
I'm in charge of making the desserts for the family dinner/reception afterward. My sister requested a fruity tart, a decadent chocolate something, and then an iced, stacked cake with something baptism related on it. So I've been google searching, but it all seems gaudy and overdone... any ideas? It will just be a 9" 4-layer cake.

Re: s/o baptism, help me find a cute cake/PIP?
I have no idea about your cake decorating abilities but what about something like this? It looks like fondant but maybe you can do something similar with regular icing? I think it's really pretty but simple at the same time.
I saw that one, and do like it. I should have specified, since I'm flying I won't have my tool kit with the ability to make, roll and form fondant. I'm going to be just using buttercream or royal icing. However, I can do something similar. I do like that one.
Not sure how I'd ice on the written part, but I do want it to say "God Bless Evan" or something like that.
What about a simple cross cake? The bow and name look like fondant, but you could do some other type of detail.

) I really like this one. I am a sucker for the sheep. To keep it simple you could always do a pretty cross and whatever writing you want.
Thank you. My computer is now covered in soda. I really like the sheep one too. Super cute.
lol, we do have a large baptismal font...
i'll see what kris thinks of the sheep and the others!
here's a picture of the baptismal font!
This same sister (who I love, don't get me wrong) also asked me to "help her" make my shower cake. The girl can't bake or decorate, so essentially she asked me to make my shower cake, lol. But we're driving then so I am going to bring all the cake stuff and do fondant for it.
What the??? lol Are there bakeries in her area? I know you enjoy baking & don't seem to mind, but seriously...that's what they're for.
The cake she wanted, she was getting quoted between $150-180, which is absurd! But it's a car shaped cake on a circle cake with fondant for 50 people, so I'm not very surprised.
I told her I have a cake pan that's a car from making DH's groom's cake, so she could use that, then she said well what if we make it together and I was like sure, that's fine. She'd spend the money, but that would seriously make me ill. There's no need to spend that much on a shower cake, but she's so excited about it, she made up the concept in her mind and thinks it's really creative... I can't crush her dreams, lol.
Well, no. When you explain it like that, it actually very sweet. Great intentions just lacking in baking skills. haha That's a cute idea.
this was her 'rough sketch'... it makes me laugh my face off. bless her heart
it's a ladybug decorated VW with the florida license plate having the VEW . i love ladybugs (which will be the loose theme) and we're calling her v-dub.
Please tell me this is what she took with her to get a quote at the bakeries! That's hilarious. I bet it will look adorable though, especially in color to get the ladybug effect. You need to put this in the baby book, or wherever you're keeping stuff from your shower.
I think she drew that one just for me, lol. She said she described it to the bakeries I think. It's a little ambitious on her part, but I really do want to just assist her in making it. She asked if she could use boxed cake mix, I was like whatever, it's your cake! I'm just giving guidance and tools. It could get very interesting!
