Cake Question

Since we're on the topic...who ate their wedding cake on their 1st anniversary and what did you think?

Re: Cake Question

  • We *tried* ours. It was disgusting and freezer burnt. I wanted to throw up right after!
  • we tried ours too. the cake was ok but the icing was yucky.

  • We had ours, and it was surprisingly good. We had just traditional white cake for our top layer, because our baker said it would freeze the best. It didn't disappoint. Although, I wish I would have eaten some of the other flavors at the wedding. I was too nervous/scatter-brained to really eat.
  • We got a fresh 7" cake free, it was delish

  • we ate our top layer - a yellow cake with strawberry filling, it was delicious!  We didn't plan on keeping it, but it was leftover so we figured what the heck!

  • Since we were a little... umm... delayed in having our anniversary cake, we at it the night I came home from the hospital with Sami.  Even at a year and 3 days later, it was amazing.

ETA:  And by "anniversary cake" I mean the top layer of our wedding cake...

  • we did and it was great..I was pretty impressed. I thought it would be freezer burned and gross, but it was delish!

  • I really wonder....I think our cake was wrapped pretty badly. The cake itself wasn't wrapped up, but rather placed into a box and then they wrapped the box. Kind of silly!
  • We did ! It was actually REALLY good !!!!

  • As I mentioned below ours was delicious. Our top layer was vanilla bean cake with raspberry mouse and choclate ganache. It was really only saved though because my mom is awesome. She took our cake home with her to store since we were leaving right away for our honeymoon. She on a whim decided to open up the box the hotel had given her the cake in and she found it hadn't been wrapped up at all! So she wrapped it in so many layers it was ridiculous but totally worth it since it was delish a year later. We also let it thaw in the freezer for about 3 days before our anniversary as opposed to leaving it out to defrost which I think helped.

  • We did and it was pretty good.  The flavor was cannolli w/choco chips!  I thought the icing would be gross, but it wasn't bad at all.  Then again I wrapped the cake in 3 different layers.  Wax paper, cling wrap and then foil. I wanted that puppy to last.

  • We ate ours and it was delicious! I guess I have to give MIL some credit. She wrapped it and stored it in her freezer for the entire year.
  • We ate ours 3 months after the wedding on our "first date" anniversary. It's a good thing we did too. The cake was chocolate with PB filling and I think if we left it the full year the PB would have fully separated from the rest of the icing. After 3 months it was still delicious though.

  • so... we ate it on our first anniversary. And then we ate it a couple months later. And last week.

It's actually quite good. The lime curd filling turned really bitter, so we just avoid that and focus on the cake and the lemon and blood orange curds. Clint eats the frosting but I don't (even though it's my favorite frosting recipe)

We had it in a well-sealed tupperware container, so I'm sure that helped.
