Anyone recommend places to live in Rockland County?
Hi all, I live in Southern Westchester County right now and my husband and I are starting to look at places to move. We want to try to get out of Westchester and head to Rockland or even Putnam. We are looking at community places that rent, with a $2000/month limit. If anyone can help out and give us some ideas of places to look. We are only going by what we see on the internet and we dont really know anyone in those counties to talk to. Thanks for your help!

Re: Anyone recommend places to live in Rockland County?
How many bedrooms are you looking for? Do you want utilities to be included? I lived in Avalon Gardens in Nanuet in the past but it is NOT worth the money for the horrible experience I had. While the apartment was beautiful and large, they are ridiculous with maintenance and fees -- nothing was included. Jeanne Marie Gardens in Nanuet is very nice and quiet -- some utilities are included. They only have 1-2 bedroom apartments.
If you have a pet, renting is more difficult in Rockland so your choices will be limited. Many complexes will not allow them but I would look into the following towns -- Nanuet, New City, Nyack (some areas are beautiful, some are sketchy -- be sure to check it out), Piermont, Tappan, Valley Cottage, Suffern. Do school districts make a difference? If so, the best school districts are Clarkstown, Orangetown, Nanuet and Ramapo. I might be forgetting something but I've lived in Rockland since the age of 4
Hope this helps!
i thought the pearl river schools were good too, right?
i wish i could help - i've lived in rockland most of my life, but never rented and am not familiar with the rental market.
will you need to commute? that might make a difference in where you live....
We rented in Nyack for a year before buying our house and paid $2000 a month for a 3 bed apt in an old house (there was one other apt in the house).
A lot of rentals are listed through realtors on the MLS and you have to pay a finders' fee to the realtor (usually one month's rent). You can search for those on any local real estate company website (try www.randrealty.com, which is pretty easy to use). You'll also find some listings on craigslist.
It's definitely hard to find a place if you have a dog. Where will you be commuting to? That makes a big difference in how convenient various places are, if you drive to work, want to bus/train, etc.
