6 Weeks Growth Spurt

I do believe Alex is having another growth spurt.  He was awake and eating from 3:30 a.m. to 6 a.m. and then again from 7:30 to 10 a.m. then he just hung out until 1 when he ate again and finally fell asleep.  I think my boobs are going to fall off.  Just had to whine for a minute.

Any tips from moms on how to get through it?  I lost it last night and just cried while feeding him because I was SO tired and my nips hurt so badly.  During his last spurt I just kept reminding myself that it will only last for a couple of days.

  • I was so there... constant feedings and toe-curling pain... and as much as it sucks, you just gotta stick with it.  It gets better.  I promise.  *hugs*

Thanks. I'm definitely sticking with it, it's just really hard some nights which then makes for a rough day since I didn't really sleep.  These are the rought patches though that make the cute moments even better.  Alex started making really cute baby noises over the past week or so which I love  :)

  • Citto MB that is does get better!

Are you using lanolin to avoid cracking? Have you tried using a shield?

Also, are you using different holds each time? I found that changing the position really helped to keep me from getting unbearably sore. Ellie liked the football hold but I made her do the other ones too. LOL

    Hang in there, hon!

I am using lanolin but I have not used a shield.  It worth a shot to try different holds.  Alex likes the standard hold and hates the football hold, but I'll give it a try.  I have been pumping on a few feedings to save my nipples a bit too and then just bottle feeding it to him.

  • I'm sorry you're having a rough time Christina.  Sounds like par for the course from what I've heard. :(

This is really scaring me though.  A lot.  I fear for my poor little boobs.  (And I do mean little -- I'm still wearing the same A cups I was wearing before I got pregnant. I'll be surprised if I get to a C cup when my milk comes in.)

Don't say poor boobies until you see what they look like after your milk dries up! Sag city!

Can your boobs really sag if you didn't really have any boobs to start with? ;)

Seriously though, you girls are scaring me.  I fully intend to BF my little one, but I'm way more afraid of that than I am of giving birth!

  • That is so hard.  :(  I watched a lot of DVRed shows when he did that during the day and at night I just tried to remember that it was only temporary but at the time it was so hard to think that way.  I also used a nipple cream called Motherlove and it was amazing and helped make things a lot more comfortable.  Great job sticking with it, it is so worth it.

    Ditto!!

  • It definitely is par for the course, I just needed to whine about it for a minute.  At least day one is down...only three or four more to go approximately.

    Haha, good point.

Ladies, a good bra? Is your bff.

Tara, don't be scared. I'm not going to lie, BFing is HARD. In a lot of cases, harder than giving birth, just because it goes on for months and months instead of just for a few hours. BUT, it is so rewarding and so worth it. Not saying you couldn't bond with your baby by bottle feeding, but the bond that I have with Ellie is so strong, and I really attribute a lot of that to the fact that I breast fed her for almost 9 months. It's worth every cracked nipple, every sleepless night, and even the saggy boobs. I cried for days when it was time to stop (she self-weaned), and I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
