Pre-post info: 97 year old Kentucky house, two newlyweds and two average cats, one 85 pound pit bull and one 9 pound chi/jack mix) basically, I'm brand new to the whole site, saw your board first and have just been really, really impressed by the remedies and good ideas.
I'm hoping someone has the magic wand for this one: how do you solve canola oil that was spilled into your sofa body? Thankfully, I had all three cushions off the sofa being cleaned when my huge dog put his nose up on the counter and took my canola oil, got onto the sofa, bit it open and was licking it as it leaked out.
Has anyone ever had success with removing oil from something you can only access from one side? When the tiny dog #1-ed on the cushion, I poured a cup of salt on it, and replaced it hourly, and it pulled the liquid up and out...didn't even discolor the oatmeal-colored fabric. Salt worked great for the water base, but has anyone got something that pulls oil up and out?
Re: Prayer to the Cleaning Gurus: vegetable oil in sofa.
I'm sorry, I am LOL'ing at the visual of your dog lapping up the "yummies". As one who shares her home with one DH, one 70 lb pitbull, one 80 lb pitbull and two cats.... I can totally see how something like this happens. Why is it that the weirdest things will attract them? Canola Oil? How gross can that be? LOL
The only thing I can think of to get out oil is a dish detergent like Dawn. But I'm not sure how well that would work on this specific situation. Hopefully someone else will have a brilliant idea for you. GL
I'd try putting something absorbent on it--baby powder, or perhaps baking soda?--and patting it in gently, then vaccuming after it's had a chance to work. I've gotten garlic butter from Papa John's out of my blue jeans (even though I had "access" to both sides, I only put the powder on the front where the stain was) and olive oil out of a cotton dress this way.

Wanted to update in case anyone else has oil in their sofa... Sugar is proving to work the best, in piles about a quarter to half inch deep, left on over night. (This is a ridiculous process. Never leave a cushion-less sofa unsupervised.) Sugar's osmotic pulling ability is working best... but I am going to go look for that Lestoil product you mentioned because this has taken almost a week now!
