Things I don't get - Tues edition
My SIL's bridal shower is coming up at the end of this month and since my MIL is sending me 2-3x daily emails abt it (we'll save that for another rant...), I was motivated to browse her registry for a gift.
She has 2 registries (BB&B and Target) and I noticed that between the 2 there are a lot of duplicates... I mean A LOT. 2 sets of pots and pans, 2 toasters, 2 toaster ovens, 2 vacuums, 2 sets of knives, etc. Looking at it more closely, you'll notice that 1 of the items is considerably more expensive and the other is more affordable. As an example, she registered for a $400 video camera and then another one for $79. I thought this was strange and possibly a mistake so I sent her a message about it. Nope, this was done on purpose. Her rational is that they really want the more expensive one, but put a cheaper one on there so they at least get something. She said they plan on returning most of the cheaper stuff they get and using $ they get from the wedding to upgrade.
Does this make any sense to anyone?! Doesn't this seem super gift-grabby and like a huge annoyance/hassle?? Now that I know this, I'm not buying them either of the duplicates they registered for and I'd be willing to bet that anyone else shopping for them will do the same.
Ugh... anyways, that what I'm not "getting" today. Anyone else care to share?

I don't get the weather. Yesterday? 80 and sunny. Today? 50 and rainy. I'm so tired of this miserable winter dragging on that I could just scream.

Especially since Target has recently revamped their return policy and will no longer take back things off a registry w/o a receipt...

Add to that: I don't get why it took me 30 minutes to get out of the city where I live. Seriously, 30 minutes. I usually carpool with Patrick and we even drop off Olive at my parent's, but today I drove separately because I have a doctor's appointment. It took me the same amount of time to get to work. The same.
This is exactly what I was thinking. Target and returns are a big no-no. Someone on fb asked Robin's PG cousin where she was registered and she replied "Babies R Us, Target, Walmart, and I can't decide if I should register somewhere else too."
What I don't get: I thought flies had a life expectancy of like 24 hours. I swear this mf-er has been in here since Friday.
What I don't get? Why my CW won't STFU about that hcg diet. I really, REALLY don't care.

I don't get why some people suck, plain and simple.
I was already not it the greatest mood since I got a call while at the game that my test results were normal. Well then I received an email notification on my phone. I check it and it is from Ellie S*****, subject 'Hello Friends'. Seems harmless right??? No. Ellie passed away 2 years ago of Cystic fibrosis. She is the mom of a family I babysat for and was really close too. Somebody hacked her account. Lets just say, my mood went from bad to worse after that.
Wow. The registry thing is so ridiculous. Why go to all that trouble?! Makes no sense to me!

What I don't get....
My friend gave birth to her first baby last week. She was only in labor for 3 hours. She went all natural and didn't tear. WTF.

Lots of things can help prevent tearing though. Some studies show that going all natural makes you less likely to tear because women without epidurals push in response to their body's cues, instead of being directed to push, which helps the baby come out more slowly. (I'm not saying all women who get epidurals will tear, so no one flame me.) Some midwives will also use warm compresses against the perineum and use reverse pressure to guide the baby's head out slowly and help avoid perineal trauma. (This is in my birth plan.) Also, pushing on your hands and knees or while squatting greatly reduce your chance of tearing as well. I admit the idea of me pushing on my hands and knees with my ass out there in front of everyone is kind of frightening, but I imagine at that point, if that position feels comfortable, I won't care who's looking at me.
A 3 hour labor though...damn. One of my coworkers had a 4 hour labor and I was pretty impressed. Knowing my luck, I'll go a whole 24 hours...
What I don't get: Coworkers who still think it's okay to rub my belly even though I've expressed my irritation with that repeatedly.
And here I thought I got it easy for an 8.5 hour labor...

about the registry- maybe they get free stuff for registering for things? I registered for 2 sets of pots and pans- the ones from Macy's I really wanted, and the ones from WS that gave a free frying pan for registering.
I don't get why I can't read a damn recipe before I start cooking. I just now noticed it says to simmer for 2 hours. So much for running errands at 1:00!

Hahah I want to be her too! The quickest labor I heard of prior to that was my neighbor who was in labor for 5 hours with her first. I thought that was impressive. I definitely feel like I'm going to be one of those people who are in labor for like 30 hours....but hopefully not!
I'll be using every idea I can find to help prevent tearing! Right now I'm saying that I don't want an epidural (for many reasons), but I know that it's one of those things you just can't plan for, so I'm open minded....and if I am in labor for 30 hours, I'll probably want one just so I can rest at some point!

However, I will say that a fast labor isn't always a good thing - because they came out so fast, both Karson and Sayre didn't have enough time in the birth canal to have all the amniotic fluid pushed out of their lungs, which caused breathing problems and NICU stays for both of them. So, a quick labor may be easy on mom, but it's not always easy on baby.

I dont get-
So, if you arent a people person, dont work in Critical Care. Really, the patients there dont need you to be a biitch while they are in excruciating pain. If they ask for their inhaler, get the freaking inhaler. Dont blather on about how they dont look like they are having a hard time breathing. Just because your life long dream is to be a nurse doesn't mean you are cut out for it. Especially when you are around people who really need support and positivity to get through some really rough shiit.
