1st bday presents?

Looking for some suggestions for my twins :)  What do/did your LOs play with at 12-18 months old?  Thanks!

Re: 1st bday presents?

  • boxes...no really sometimes i wish we could just buy him boxes even at 3.    DS always liked things that made noise. he had one of those little tykes tables that had the piano on it and the different buttons that played music at about that age. family also bought around that age a mat that when he crawled on it/walked on it played music as well.
  • I know this will sound bad but we didn't get them anything for their first birthday. We had such a big party and I knew they were going to get bombarded with stuff and not even know who gave them what, so we didn't stress it.

But I think most of the things they played with at that age were like pp said...musical toys, things to help them walk, music tables etc etc.  Those mega blocks are good at that age too, or stacking toys too.

Actually, we are just throwing them a big party and not buying them any presents, but the grandparents have been asking for suggestions so I was looking for ideas to pass on.

One thing I know they are getting is a red wagon with the little seats/seat belts and canopy :)

Oh that was one of their presents too...I totally forgot about that!

  • For toys, Lily was really into puzzles at that age. The big wooden ones with the pegs. I think we got the play kitchen for her at Christmas, when she was about 18 months, so it might be early, but if someone wants to splurge on it, it'll be well-loved for many years. Or maybe some play food/dishes, etc. Again, a little early but maybe they'll just throw them around for awhile, and grow into playing with them. Do you have a water table? How about some outdoor play stuff like sand buckets and shovels, bubbles (Gymboree!!), or sidewalk chalk?

Practical stuff: warm weather jammies, their own dishes (forks, spoons, plates), and shoes! Shoes in the size they are and/or the next one up. That would be a great gift for new walkers. :-)

  • Ditto Kate.  Practical is always helpful.  And DD always gets shoes from us for Bday/Xmas - one size plus the next size up.  And I normally buy them BOGO at Stride Rite for a discount.

Also, DD has played the hell out of this thing:

and it's less than $10 at Walmart, just FYI.  "Can I take some pictures with you..."

Balls, big and small.  Bubbles.  Bags - mini backpacks, purses, totes, etc.  Books!  Oh, the books.  Tent.   Sprinkler.  Ride-on toys.  Mini bean bag.  Mini chairs/stools.  Toothbrushes.  Kitchen-related toys.

The things DD rec'd that she has had little to no interest in - Legos, baby dolls, ball pit, musical mat (mat you step on to make animal/music noises), and Tickle Me Elmo.  She is TERRIFIED of the TME, despite her deep love for all things Elmo.

  • We got Declinn her own little couch.  She got clothes and educational toys.  She loves magnets so we also got her a leap frog refrigerator barnyard game thing.  She loves it.

My aunt and uncle got her one of those activity tables from Fisher Price that has a little piano, phone, book and laptop.  She absolutely loves it!

"CLick the button, see what's in view...."  OMG, the twins have that too!  I hate that dang song!!!!  DH and I find ourselves singing it all the time.  LOL  too funny!

  • We had gotten P the Pottery Barn Anywhere Chair that most of the MoM's on the multiples board are obssessed with. P loves his!!  So we will be getting the twins each their own chairs also.

P got so many toys for his first birthday.  Since his birthday is a week after Christmas we get bombarded with toys then we don't get any for another year.  :(  I try to 'hide' some of his toys to open throughout the year.  That little stinker found my hiding place a few weeks ago.

  • We got MacKenzie Little People for her birthday and she plays with them constantly (She is digging through the box of them right now!).  My parents got her a kitchen which she is a little too small for but she loves the stand up to it and turn the dials and open and close the door.  My In laws got her a shopping cart to go with the kitchen.  So far, she is playing with everything!

MacKenzie is also really into books and puzzles right now, so anything like that is great too (it's something she can grow into as well).
