  • Hi!

Vegas was, by far and large, absolutely wonderful!  The weather was beautiful, The Mirage is an outstanding hotel/casino, I had a great time with friends and family - it was the break I desperately needed.  We changed up plans a lot once we got there, canceling and juggling various things, but I was fine with it.  If I was tired and didn't feel like trekking down the strip for dinner reservations, I changed them to a place in our hotel so that I simply had to take an elevator down a few floors.  It was great.

BLT Burger was right in our hotel and we all became pretty big fans of their food.  For strip prices, they're relatively cheap and the food was tasty.  DH and his buddy had about six Night Riders each - an alcoholic milkshake that was incredible.

DH and I had a date night at Japonais, also in our restaurant.  It was pricier but the food and atmosphere were phenomenal.

We had my Mom's birthday dinner at Nine Fine Irishmen in the NYNY and again, the food was good and the atmosphere wonderful.  It was a little pricey, but worth the experience for the celebration.

We spent one day walking the Strip a bit, and another day off strip completely, exploring Red Rock Canyon and going to the Vegas sign for pictures.  We ate lunch at Hash House a Go Go, which I was really excited to try and, sadly, was disappointed by.  It was okay, but not great and the location we went to was terribly out of the way.

I did poorly on the flights out and back, having developed some sort of anxiety issue related to flying.  Lots of turbulence there and back didn't help, and neither did sheer exhaustion with the flight home yesterday.  I was a mess.

But it was worth it.  It was great to get away for awhile.

  • That sounds fun! I just went to Vegas for the first time with DH and we LOVED The Mirage! Great hotel. We were at the Beatles Revolution Lounge every night, lol.

Isn't Red Rock Canyon awesome? We saw a female body builder there getting her pix taken for a calendar or something when we drove through, lol.

Glad you had a good time!!

    Yes and yes!

I am so, so pleased with The Mirage!  We were lucky and caught an amazing deal on the rooms, but I think the stay was worth even more (not that I'm offering to give them more...).

And Red Rock was absolutely stunning.  I can't wait to sit down and go through the photos I took.  We spent a lot longer out there than I'd anticipated and we still only stopped at 3 of the scenic overlooks!

  • Thanks so much everyone!  It was a perfectly timed escape from reality, and it was just the right amount of time to spend in Vegas (for us, anyway).  4 nights was enough to do what we wanted, but we were ready to come home by the 5th day.

ETA: And thank you for the birthday wishes! It was a great way to spend my 30th.

Meghann, BLT Burger Bar is great.  If you like chocolate, please get the Night Rider milkshake.  It is like heaven in a cup!  The buffet at the Mirage, Cravings, has a great breakfast for $16.  It's a little pricey, but the food was really tasty.  I don't recommend it for lunch or dinner, however.

If you're still looking for restaurant recs, I recommend perusing the Travel board here on TN.  I went back through quite a few pages when I was planning and just skimmed all of the Vegas threads (of which there are tons) and was able to get a ton of restaurant names.  Where are you guys staying?

  • Who doesn't love chocolate? Lol all the shakes sound amazing but I think I will definitely have to try that one.

This is a much needed vacation for us but we are on a super tight budget. We've been going back and forth on hotels. Our current contenders are Harrah's and the Luxor. We are going to a wedding in Orlando on the 17th then flying to Vegas for 18th-21st.

I posted on the Travel board and got good recs on free shows/exhibits. We plan on doing one "nice" dinner and pizza/burgers for the other nights. And $0.99 margaritas at Casino Royale!!

Sounds like you've got it mapped out pretty well!

I almost booked us for the Luxor before we got the great deal on the Mirage.  I don't know much about the Luxor or Harrah's, but Harrah's is definitely more conveniently located and it has a monorail stop, which makes exploring up and down the strip a bit easier.  Look for the monorail coupons and save a couple of dollars per all-day pass (it took it down from $12 to $10 for us).

I hope you have a wonderful time and get some much-needed rest and relaxation!

  • Pictures posted to Facebook, just FYI to those who asked!  The album is huge and I weeded out 1/3 of the photos I took while we were there.
