Another vacation related poll...

Where have you vacationed within the last year?  What did you like the most on that trip(s)?

Where do you plan on vacationing within the next year?  What are you most looking forward to at that destination(s)?

Any other tentative trips you are mentally planning for within the next two to three years?

Re: Another vacation related poll...

  • We took our belated honeymoon to Sydney, Australia and then to New Zealand.  We were gone a total of 17 days, and did so much it's hard to say what was our favorite.  We went horseback riding in the high country, climbed a glacier, took a train ride across the country, went to a zoo and pet a bunch of native Australian animials, took some harbour cruises, attended a Mauri hangi (similiar to a staged "pow-pow" here), and took over 4000 pictures.  It was  a spectacular trip and I highly recommend seeing both countries to anyone.
  • Last year we didn't vacation much, mostly because I was focusing on trying to finish my PhD, but also partly because we were recovering (financially) from spending 3 weeks in Costa Rica and 2 weeks in Australia the previous year.  We did go to the BWCA last July, and we visited our families in OR and Cincinnati, but that was it for last year.

    This year we are planning:

-2 trips to Cincinnati (one for a wedding, one for a new neice/nephew)

-1 trip to Denmark - to visit host family, and a celebration of me finishing my PhD (which... hopefully will happen this summer)

-1 trip to Hawaii - this is a work-related trip, but we're going to make a mini-vacation out of it

-1 possible trip to NZ...again, this is a work-related trip, and originally we were going to make a vacation out of it, but then the Hawaii thing got added in, and now we're not sure if we're going to do NZ or skip it and do it another time when we have more time/money.

  • We've been to Vegas twice in the last year and also a family reunion to Arkansas last summer. We also went to Dallas for a wedding, but it was just for a weekend so we didn't see much there. We love Vegas and will probably go back again, but we'd like to travel to other places on our list first. We're thinking of a cruise next winter. I would love to visit Turks and Caicos because I hear they have the most beautiful beaches. If we don't go on a cruise, then we'll probably go to an all-inclusive in Mexico.

  • In the last year we did a lot of backpacking and the BWCA twice.  We also went to Peru in January.  We loved the Inca Trail hike to Machu Picchu.

In September we are flying out to DC to stay with DH's brother and wife.  Their first baby, a boy, is due in June.  We'll be staying almost a week with them.

We used miles to book a flight to London for November.  We'll be staying 5 nights in Paris and 5 nights in London.  We are super pumped, this will be our first Europe trip.

Within the next two years after that we hope to do a missions trip with our church to either Africa or Asia.  And I think Memorial Day weekend of 2012 will be spent in San Francisco.

  • We go on annual motorcycle runs with our club.  Last year it was to Yellowstone/Jackson Hole.  Gone 12 days and I put over 2500 miles on my bike.  Loved it!

Last fall DH and I did a road trip to North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee.  We do a road trip each year for our anniversary and see new parts of the country.

I'm headed to Chicago the end of this month for a girls vacation and meeting a bunch of friends there.

In July DH are headed to the UP/Michigan with the motorcycle club.  We're going to go up into Canada on our way back to see more stuff up there.

This fall we're headed to either the East Coast - Maryland/DC or the Pacific West Coast for our anniversary trip.

And as soon as DH has a job that is permanant, we're headed to Germany to visit his relatives.

  • Girls and I went to Duluth for MEA. Family went to Cancun/Playa for Christmas, I just got back from Vegas on Thursday and DH and I are going to Cabo in June.
  • In the past year I've been to NYC and the Dominican Republic

This summer we are spending a few days in Chicago, but that is it for travel. We're saving for a Europe trip in a couple of years, place TBD.

  • I have a conference in Phoenix this summer, so we're road-tripping for 2 weeks.  We're going to hit Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Preston, ID (bonus points if you get it), Vegas, Grand Canyon, Rocky Mountain, and Mount Rushmore.  SO excited.
  • We went to Bali last year in late April/early May.

I really liked the people there and the lush greenery.  I liked our hotel, the temples, the ruins, the Indian Ocean, the food.  Also, we got a massage nearly every day which was FANTASTIC.  The spa was stunning and one day there was a light rain and thunder during our massage so you could hear the rain and you could still hear the exotic birds chirping.  It was like a recording for a nature CD only it was real!  The shopping and the craftsmanship of people of Ubud was also really cool.

What I did not like about Bali was the town of Kuta which we visited for one day.  It was a lot like Cancun, but was full of Australian tourists.  That's where the Hard Rock cafe got bombed by terrorists 10 years ago or so.  It was way too wild and dirty for me.  There was a lot of harassing you on the beach trying to sell you stuff.

We are contemplating a trip to the Bahamas in Dec/Jan.

  • We went to Grand Cayman in January.  It was so relaxing, peaceful, and warm!!

We plan to go to CA to visit friends, and maybe take my parents to Hawaii this next winter!  We are going to KY in June for a family reunion as well.

We plan to go to Europe in 2012 with my whole family.  Nothing solid yet, but hopefully it works out!

  • Where have you vacationed within the last year?  What did you like the most on that trip(s)? We went to Cancun last month. I liked getting away from the snow and doing nothing but relaxing while I was there. But I don't think I would go back, it was kind of a spur of the moment let's get the heck out of this crappy weather vacation.

Where do you plan on vacationing within the next year?  What are you most looking forward to at that destination(s)? DH, his parents and myself are going to Washington next month to visit his family. I am excited because I have never met his cousins (and we have been together for 11 years!). After that probably no vacations until LO is at least one.

Any other tentative trips you are mentally planning for within the next two to three years?  Not sure yet, but I have some travel rewards that will have to be used by then and you can bet I am not letting them go to waste!

  • Where have you vacationed within the last year? What did you like the most on that trip(s)? We went on a cruise to the Bahamas in Nov.  We weren't impressed with the cruise itself (didn't like the ship/cruise line) but Half Moon Cay is the most gorgeous beach I have ever been to.

Where do you plan on vacationing within the next year? What are you most looking forward to at that destination(s)? We're going to Michigan in July for my cousin's wedding. I might go to DC for the weekend for my friend's wedding in May. I wish we were planning a bigger vacation than a road trip to MI, but I am excited to see my extended family.

Any other tentative trips you are mentally planning for within the next two to three years? Hawaii, maybe Mexico or another cruise.

  • Where have you vacationed within the last year? Fort Collins, CO; Sturgis/Nemo, SD; Isla Mujeres, MX & Dingle/Dublin, IE

What did you like the most on that trip(s)? FoCo= it's colorado! there is nothing to not like. Sturgis=riding through the black hills is amazing. Isla=great resort and good company (our neighbors). Dingle=loved, beautiful scenery and music and the locals are friendly. Dublin is gross and dirty and I didn't care for it at all.

Where do you plan on vacationing within the next year?  What are you most looking forward to at that destination(s)? Sadly, we actually have nothing on the books right now.

Any other tentative trips you are mentally planning for within the next two to three years? We're thinking about taking my son camping in Colorado over the 4th but that's it. We need to plan something.

  • Last year.... we rented a home on Dauphin Island (an island on the Gulf of Mexico) last spring.  I loved being able to step right onto the beach in the morning and go for a walk with the dog.  We took a few camping trips, spend a couple long weekends in Duluth and went to Michigan's UP in the fall.  I love hiking so that was my favorite thing on all those trips.

This year.... we're still trying to figure out where to go in July for our 5 year anniversary without blowing the budget and we have some camping trips planned.  We're saving for adoption so we really have to cut back on travel.

Next few years....our next big trip will hopefully be Australia in 3 years for DH's 40th birthday.  Or sooner if we win the lottery.  :)
