I've been at my current job for over 11 years now. I never meant to make it a long term thing, but here I am. The biggest reason I've been here this long is b/c I can work as much OT as I want. I do that b/c I have been paying my way through college out of pocket for a few years (they do not know I'm in school; I would lose my job otherwise. Yes, I have that kind of boss and its terrible).
H & I own a house and its currently up for sale. Our plan was if it sells great, then I will get a new job b/c I will be able to afford the pay cut. We don't know what's going to happen w/ the house yet but I can't stay here another year. Every day there is verbal/emotional abuse (among other things) and I just can't take it anymore. I can't report my concerns (nor can anyone else) to either the president or vp b/c they are the people doing it. We are a very small company and don't have an HR dept. so I feel very stuck & having to put up w/ it. There have been a lot of things that have happened over my time here, but it has gotten so bad. Yest my stomach was in knots & I felt so sick. Everyone walks on eggshells here, every single day.
I've applied over the years for a lot of jobs and either never get a phone call or response, or get an automated email saying thanks but you weren't chosen. Its frustrating & very discouraging. I just don't know where to turn or what to do.
Does anyone have any suggestions or advice? I am going to start my search yet again for another job but who knows if/when that will turn up anything. I'm feeling very frustrated & stuck and its so aggravating.
Re: Need suggestions/help
Find someone to look over your resume and cover letter. You may need some updating and don't even know it.
Have you been promoted or gotten any title changes in your time there? It may be that, if you haven't, potential employers are seeing someone who's stuck in an 11-year rut and it will reflect badly on you instead of your BSC supervisors.
When are you finishing school? Is it in the same field? Having that degree may help you in the job search.

Good idea about the resume; thank you! I haven't done any searching for about 6 months, but I agree I need a fresh pair of eyes to look it over.
I started out as "customer service" as far as title goes & have been for 10 years; within the past year I have been relabeled as "receivables manager", however there is nowhere for me to move up to or be promoted to. I'm the only person in this position/job and have been the whole 11 years I've been here. I can't go anywhere b/c above me is the vp & president/owner, and they aren't going anywhere, either.
Finishing school is the hard part. I started in the summer of 2004 and have been going strictly at night and on the weekends. I took a 2 year break starting in Jan 2008 until after our wedding (we were paying for it ourselves) and then started back up last year. I'm at a point now where I need to take 3 classes to get moving along to finish my major BUT they are only daytime class offerings, and I can't do that while I'm employed here. Ideally I would love to get a job in the field I'm studying (majoring in Psychology, minor in Criminology), but until we sell the house I'm not able to take too much of a paycut. I seriously feel very stuck here and I don't know how much more I can take.
