Is the gov't going to shutdown?

I just saw that there will not be another CR. I am not fed (but DH is essential fed) so just curious if anyone has heard anything at their agencies?

Re: Is the gov't going to shutdown?

  • If there isn't going to be another CR, then my gut tells me that I'm going to be doing spring cleaning at home on Monday.
  • Where did you get that info about no CR?

We've gotten almost no info at my agency. I don't think anyone really knows anything. :(

  • well, it is not a definite no but it is a threat of a no Indifferent here is the link.

edit: also, Boehner made the rule last year that the House has to have 3 days to review a bill before a vote so if this current CR expires at midnight on Friday, it seems that time is really running out.

  • I read this morning that House Republicans have put together a proposal for a 1 week CR to avoid a shutdown that has about $12 billion in cuts and fully funds DoD. however, it didn't say if they were going to vote today on it or what.

I think there is a chance of a shutdown, but I am not banking on it. All I know is that I am not essential so a day or two off work (as long as we would get paid retroactively) is fine with me!

  • seems they are all meeting today, so I hope something gets worked out.  I'm just so fed up with all of it.
  • We are taking bets in our office (based on little more than what we read on WaPo) and the leading theory is that we'll be closed over the weekend but they'll push something through late Sunday.

Personally, I would enjoy having Monday off.

    The DC Nest. Winers welcome.

  • Can they pass something on Sunday night to keep the government open on Monday? I'd really like some more advance notice than that.

  • I really wish they would just give people more information.  ie: "we are going to make sure the gov't won't shut down or its a likely possibility and here is who we are going to consider essential if it happens...etc"  I am on travel right now under a gov't contract so it would be nice to know if there's any chance I am going to get to go home early (5 week long trip).

My director told us that we still have to report to work on Monday- even if it's to pick up our furlough letter and then go home.

Dumb... but true.  You still report to work in the morning, even if it's to be told to go home.  Then you're required by law to leave the building.

Listen, I've already sent a psychic memo to OMB stating that I've already taken LWOP this year while on maternity leave, so I've done my part "saving" the government money.  I'm sure they got the memo and I'll be an exception.  right?  Stick out tongue

Any link or reference for this?

  • Here ya go:

    48. Q. Typically, all employees are required to report for work on the day on which a "shut-down" or "emergency" furlough begins. How should agencies determine the number of work hours and the number of furlough hours for each nonexcepted employee?

    A. OPM recommends that agencies make an effort to determine, on a case-by-case basis, the amount of time each nonexcepted employee works on the day a furlough begins. If an employee is on approved leave on the day the furlough takes effect, both excepted and nonexcepted employees should be charged the appropriate kind of leave for the approximate period of time from the beginning of each individual employee's normal workday until the time other similarly situated employees departed from work after receiving furlough notices. Once the furlough begins, excepted employees are required to be at work. The remaining period of time in a nonexcepted employee's regularly scheduled tour of duty (after taking into account part-time work schedules, uncommon tours of duty, or previously approved flexible or compressed work schedules) would be considered furlough time, even if the nonexcepted employee had previously been scheduled to take paid leave later in the day. An agency may subsequently terminate the furlough if the employee's services are required for excepted activities.

No link.  It's what our Chairman told us in an all-agency meeting about a week and a half ago.

ETA:  I cannot state on a public website what I may or may not think about information being reliable or unrealiable coming from people who may or may not know, or not, or may, what they're talking about.

    BAHAHAHAHAHA, love this Yes

Hey, I DD'd that!  I can confirm that moments ago, aliens arrived in my cubicle, logged into the Nest using my username and password, and posted that.  I deny typing that.

  • Interesting. We were told that if there's a shutdown, we shouldn't report to work on Monday or even check our email. Nothing. Which begs the question... can we look at OPM's website on Monday to see if the government is open? Will someone even be updating the OMP website?? Is that person essential?

  • Heh- ya'll crack me up!
  • Of course! The nesties is the most reliable news radio!

It would be so dumb if I had to show up on Monday with no way of going home until later in the afternoon as I use the VRE. Does that mean I have to drive myself to the metro on Monday morning? GRRRR I hate hate hate driving to the metro all because of the one route I need to get to the freeway. Blah...
