Did you guys know there were now 5 oceans?

Somehow I missed this, but apparently they divided the oceans more and made a 5th ocean in 2000. It's called the "Southern Ocean". H didn't know either, but we just heard it on Kate Plus Eight.

  • Am I missing something? Ive always thought there were 5. Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Artic and Antartic.

  • It was Atlantic, Pacific, Indian and Arctic. No Antarctic ocean...just the continent of Antarctica which is probably what's confusing you. I guess the Southern ocean is the part that's closest to Antarctica...?

Per my H the Arctic is the North Pole and the Antarctic is the South Pole where Antarctica is. So confusing.

Oh, and I just realized I've been spelling Arctic, "A-R-T-I-C" for probably my whole life. oops.
