poll: extreme wedding requests...

i was talking to my MIL this weekend about her friend whose son is getting married. the bride is requiring that everyone who will be in pictures (so more than just wedding party) only wear colors from a palette of colors she has chosen. she wants everyone matching for the pictures. apparently the groom's sisters are furious. way to ingratiate yourself with the inlaws!

what are some out of line requests from brides you have heard?

Me:39 Dx LPD, Fibroid, AMA and all that goes with that. H:37 Dx low motility and low morphology. TTC since 3/12. Clomid 8/12 and 9/12: BFN. 11/12 on a break for Myomectomy sched. 11/26. Resume TTC early 2013.

Re: poll: extreme wedding requests...

  • My whole family wore any combination of black/white/raspberry so that we would all match for pictures. No one had any problems.

  • I dont think thats unreasonable. I asked our guys not to cut their hair within 3 weeks of the wedding to avoid "uh-oh's" and the girls had to wear their hair up they didnt have a problem either. This was all for pictures

  • I honestly haven't been that involved with any other weddings so I can't think of anything.

If a bride requested I wear a certain color and I wasn't part of the wedding party I would probably find it a little odd. I'd do it of course, but I'd find it a little controlling.

I guess I just didn't care about so much of the wedding type stuff that I'm surprised at what some other people come up with.

  • I don't think that's unreasonable. Find a trendy/attractive outfit in that palette, expand your creativity. My inlaws and extended family purposefully tried to dress according to the wedding colors, and I didn't even ask them to.

But for the sake of the game...

Most weird request: man...I'm a wedding photographer and I know I've seen some doozies but nothing's coming to mind lol. I suck at this.

  • I went to a black&white wedding once. It didn't bother me - because I already have a few black dresses to choose from. I'd find it stranger if it was like, come in olive green, or come in lavender. A color that isn't already in most closets.

I know a couple that said "come in any shade of purple." I thought that was a little strange. I've heard of some much more awful wedding requests, of course, but still thought it was strange.

I should clarify. I have 7 siblings + their partners so we couldn't have everyone be in the wedding party. I asked if they would be ok with wearing something in any combo of black/pink/white and they thought it was a great idea. We didn't ask any of our extended family to wear certain colors. The boys ended up wearing black pants, a white button up and pink ties (all had the same tie) they looked so good! I can see if I were demanding that even parents/grandparents, etc would have been over the top.
