Mutiple jobs in same company?

My husband and I are trying to move out of state and we're on the job hunt. I've applied for several jobs at colleges in the area that we're looking to move - but I'm wondering, is it bad to apply for mutliple jobs in the same company? All the jobs I've applied for are within the same department.

Does this come accross as desperate for a job, or just extremely interested in working in that particular department for that company?

Our move is of course contingent on finding jobs so we're both in super proactive/applying mode. I don't want to lose out on an opportunity but I also don't want to give off a negative vibe to the company either.

Thoughts?

Re: Mutiple jobs in same company?

  • I think it depends on the jobs- are they all related? I've done this several times(I'm in higher ed), but only for jobs that were related/in my field.
  • If you're able to call the places you're applying, it might be worth it to find out who's in charge of hiring and state that you're interested in Job A, but your skills and experience are also a good fit for Jobs B&C. Or mention in the interview if they bring it up.

They are are somewhat related. All the jobs are within the the same department just different roles.

I just noticed it says you live in Atlanta...DH and I are looking to move back to Atlanta!!

  • To me, it usually comes off as desperate 'I'll apply for anything'. If you are truly qualified for each position, I would send a resume and a cover letter explaining why you would be a good fit for each position that you are applying for.

  • Apply for any job you want to do and think you can do.  Remember they are screening these resumes for a specific job.  Different recruiters may be assigned to different roles.  The company you apply to doesn't know you or what you want - if you apply for job A and are a better fit for job B, how are they supposed to know?
