How often do you get flowers 'just because'?

I love flowers.  I am totally not one of those woman who thinks they are a waste of money because they die in a few days.  I don't even care if it's an $8 bouquet of them from the grocery store; I just love them period.  However, Jason, thinks they are a waste, so I never get them.  The last time he got me flowers was on my birthday back in September.  I think the last time he got me flowers 'just because' was over a year ago.  Last night we were talking and I said he wasn't very romantic and never buys me flowers and his response was, "well you never buy me flowers either" lol so that conversation obviously went really well.

So how often does your hubby's buy you flowers 'just because'?  Please tell me I'm not the only one with a husband who doesn't buy flowers.

  • My husband bought flowers ONCE.  He had them sent to my office the day of our first date.  That's it. Never again.

  • I've never gotten flowers "just because".  Ever.  LMAO  In 11.5 years.

Once I got a flower because it was back when he was living in his own apartment (11.5 years ago) and he was going to the grocery store and we were on the phone and he asked if I wanted anything (and what he meant was, "what flavor of frozen burrito do you want to eat next time we have 'dinner' at my house?")  And I said, "a flower" so he got me A flower.  lol

Then I've gotten flowers maybe 3 other times, again - in 11.5 years - for anniversaries and Valentine's Day.

    And that's it.

And I am ALSO not one of those women who thinks it's a waste of money.

  • I'm fine with grocery store flowers and have told DH never to order them elsewhere b/c I think they're a huge ripoff.

DH bought my flowers for valentines and also for 1 month until the wedding; I don't think I've ever got them just cuz.  I've gotten them for random reasons (like getting my wisdom teeth out).

More often than not if we have flowers in the house it's because I bought them.  Sometimes I'll buy them for myself on Friday's (3 for $12 at grocery store) if I know we'll be around for the weekend.

Last time I got flowers was a month or so before the wedding. Its really not very often. But it doesn't bother me.

  • Oh my.  I just had this conversation with my ladies this weekend.  AW: I must admit that Mike is seriously absolutely phenominal at this.

I get flowers sent to work for big occassions and for random days, just because.  At home, he's always picking up bouquets and arranging them in our vases - usually one in the dining room and one in the bedroom.

I never get the standard red roses/babys breath either.  He's constantly giving me all different types of flowers, some I've never seen before, different colors, different color vases, etc.

He is definitely not the typical guy when it comes to flowers and I absolutely love that and realize I am very lucky for it.

Kinda hate you now... lol jk of course, but I am jealous!  How incredibly sweet/romantic of him!

I totally agree with this.  Jason bought me gorgeous pink lillies from the grocery store for my birthday and they lasted 3 weeks and smelt amazing!

Ya know, that's a good idea.  Maybe I'll start doing that once in a while.  I just think a vase of flowers makes any room so pretty so maybe I'll treat myself to some sometime soon if Jason doesn't start stepping it up lol.

  • In the past five and a half years, I've gotten flowers maybe three times, but probably more like twice.

I love having fresh flowers around the house, so like Hannah, sometimes I will go pick some up myself.

Although I love flowers, it doesn't bother me that Chris doesn't buy them for me.  He does plenty of other nice things to make up for it :)

  • I get flowers quite often just because and I know that I am a lucky woman when it comes to that :o)  And he almost always gets my favorite flowers and colors!

  • I will add, they don't always come from a florist.  The ones around the house are alwayssss from a grocery store.  He's thoughtful and romantic, not an idiot that over-pays lol
  • I have only been given flowers once in my life, from my parents on my 16th birthday. :(

  • DH has gotten be flowers twice, I think that they were both for my birthday/valentines day and both before we were married. I love getting flowers and I agree that flowers from the grocery store are just as good as ones from a florist. I am going to have to have a discussion with him tonight about this...

And Kearstin, I kind of hate you too. In a loving kinda way :)

Matti has surprised me with flowers "just because" on maybe four occasions.  He has never bought me flowers that weren't planted in a pot, though, 'cause he knows I hate to watch them die.  Sometimes they still don't last very long, though. :(

Same here... only a couple of times, always potted.  I had an orchid for a few months once.

Really, the only times I'll have cut flowers in the house are flowers from my yard or from the gardens outside my office.

  • I get them occasionally for no reason. There's a flower stand at the T station he works by, so every now and then, he'll see something he thinks I'll like.  But it's probably been a dozen or so times in 4 1/2 years, so REALLY occasionally, heh.

  • I get them on Valentine's day and I got them on my last day of work before the wedding delivered to work.  I do sometimes come home to flowers on the dining room table, sometimes he stopped by the grocery store to get them, sometimes they were left from an event at his work.  It is nice that he brings them.  I love having fresh flowers in the house from our yard too, but if it never gets warmer that is never going to happen.

  • He has only bought me flowers once. And I think I messed it up. He was at my car when I got off of work standing there with a dozen red roses. The first words out of my mouth were "what the hell did you do?" Of course he wasn't guilty- but since then he won't buy me flowers.

He occasionally gets them from work- he works in the hospital- and sometimes get them when they are ready to throw them away- he knows I'll make them last a few more days.
He will also pick me wild flowers and bring them home. <3

Usually when we have bunches I buy them I love flowers in my house. They brighten a space and make it smell better.
