TTC and BM dress- what size to order???

So I'm MOH in a wedding in September and need to order the BM dress soon. I took my measurements this morning and they match up exactly with a size 6. The next size up is an inch larger in all measurements. DH and I will begin TTC next month. Do I order the dress that would hypothetically fit me perfect now or do I get the next size up knowing I can always have it altered if I'm not actually pregnant by September? This is the dress in case that helps, according to the bride it is fitted around the bust then flows out, almost like an empire.

Re: TTC and BM dress- what size to order???

  • I think you'll be fine ordering the size you are now.  Say you do get pg on the first try next month, I doubt you will outgrow that size by 2-3 months along.
  • It's easier to take something in than take it out (a lot less expensive too!). Like pp said, you will probably be fine ordering your current size, but if you want peace of mind order the size up.

  • I'd order a size up.  If you get pregnant next month, you'll be 4 months in September and that wiggle room might be nice.  Even if you don't have a baby bump by then, some women's bust size grows considerably early on (though not me, unfortunately ;-)).  You can always take it in, but you may not be able to take it out.
  • I'd order your current size.  I wouldn't want to take in a dress just b/c I wasn't KTFU yet.

I was thinking this...all I would be thinking during the alteration was that I wasn't PG yet. And depending on how emotional you are...I would probably burst into tears if the seamstress asked why I ordered the bigger size!

  • I would order the same size. I did this for the wedding i was in March. I was 6 weeks PG and the dress was huge on me.

  • I'd order what I'm wearing now, but that's because I'm at 11 months TTC and if I ordered something a few months out that I needeed to have taken in because I still wasn't KTFU, I'd have a mini melt-down.  But that's may just be my mental state about TTC at this time.

Ditto.  There have been milestones that have passed over the last year that I thought for sure I would be pregnant at.  So like the others said, I would order your current size because having one more reminder that your are not KU would be a blow.

But then again, chances are you won't have any issues getting pregnant!  Or at least I hope not!  And again, GL once you finally take that plunge!

  • I would go with your current size. When I was PG I didnt start looking bloated till 15 weeks and didnt start to show till 20-22 weeks
  • I'd also go with the size you are now. I was in this same situation and ended up getting pregnant 3 or 4 months or so after I ordered the dress (after 7 months of trying). David's Bridal was actually really great and let me exchange the dress since I went in and talked to them when I was 5 weeks or so. I couldn't believe they did this for me at no cost. The stress of "trying" was enough for me and I know if I had ordered a size up I would have been constantly thinking it was cuz I ordered the dress too big and jinxed it!

  • Thanks everyone! Looks like I'll be ordering my current size!
