Clicky poll: Work

How often do you look at other jobs, even if you're not actively searching for a new one?

Re: Clicky poll: Work

  • I like to keep up w/ the market and see what's out there in my vertical...so I voted several times a year.

but I haven't looked since about November 1...the timing of my last interview actually, I just didn't think moving jobs while pg was smart for me.

  • I've been looking more often since we'll be moving after Joe gets back, but I haven't looked for a new job in my current job. I love my current job too much to even think about moving right now.

When I was with my last job...I probably looked a few times a week.

  • I hate change. And it's not like one firm would have that much more upward mobility than another. So I don't look unless I really hate it and plan to leave.
  • Last year from February to July I looked a LOT!  It's pointless for me to look during the school year because I won't move.  I've been looking for diagnostician positions around where I live but I won't transfer school districts right now.  I do like to look and see what's out there because at some point my goal is to move to a district closer to where I live and cut down on this crazy commute I have going on.

Ovarian drilling and endo removed 1/3/12
    BFP - 3/27/12
    Beta's 11, 14, 57, 637, 2800
Sono showed no baby and teeny tiny sac. Waiting to M/C naturally.

  • I look regularly.  Sometimes my boss makes me mad and I look.  Sometimes I just look to see what's out there.  The arts community in SD is not large, and jobs don't come along often.  My plan is to stay in this job for 5 years, then start looking, but if something else comes up before then, it would be stupid of me not to even apply.  That's how I got the job I have now.

In any case, I have some pretty specific requirements to get me to move jobs.  I love what I do, and I do it for the biggest game in town, and we are the only Broadway house in town.  All of that is pretty hard to replace.  However, my schedule is terrible, so eventually that will make me crazy.

That is my plan as well...although twice I have passed up the opportunity to apply at the hospital that's in a more suitable location. Partially because I feel I have more to accomplish here before I look to leave, and partially because I really can't decide if I actually want to work at that hospital...it's like my hospital 5 years ago (in a dilapidated building, wanting to build a new one, needing to raise millions for it) and I just don't think I want to put myself through that.

I look every so often but I don't really know what I'm looking for....sometimes I think maybe I'll just stay here forever. Starting a new job sounds horrible.

  • I never do. In fact, I was dreading the process if I wasn't able to switch to a day shift. I think I was more excited about not having to job search than I was about the new aspect of my position!

This. I look about once a week, but I don't ever know what to really look for. There isn't anything like my current job out there, and I don't really want to just change companies. I love half of my job and hate half of it, so it's difficult to justify interviewing and leaving. Especially when I know I make the money in our house and most jobs I'd have to take a huge pay cut. So I just look to see what's out there and if it's at all comparable to what I make now.

  • I hate looking for jobs, so I only look if I want to leave or know my current job won't last.
