I posted this on the WC board but I don't think anyone's gonna respond. Should have posted it here to begin with since you all are much more awesome
Hi ladies, I'm not a regular on this board but I hope it's ok if I
ask a (possibly dumb) question. I'm baking a glazed chocolate kahlua
cake Thursday night for an event Saturday night. (Normally I would not
bake it until Sat morning/afternoon but circumstances do not permit)
First of all, do you think the cake will be ok by Sat night and secondly, what would be the best way to store it until then?
The ingredients include:
Ingredients
- Duncan Hines Classic Yellow Cake mix
- Jello instant chocolate pudding, 5 oz
- sugar
-
eggs
-
vegetable or canola oil
-
vodka
-
Kahlua
-
water
-
Glaze:
-
powdered sugar
-
Kahlua
Re: How to Store a Cake?
This looks like a perfect solution (as long as the cake is round).

This. I think if sealed properly and kept cold it should be fine!
Thank you!
I normally don't put this cake in the fridge, but I'm assuming that would be best, since it won't be eaten for 2 days? Should my coworker take it out from the fridge a few hours before serving it so that it's not too cold when it's eaten?
Yes, unless it is better served cold. My dad loves cold cake and hot coffee.
I would wait to glaze it until Friday morning, but that's just me.
And the best place to store cake -- in your tummy!!
I would say if it's not glazed when you put it in the fridge, definitely make sure it's in an air-tight container or it'll start drying out. You could even wrap it up in saran wrap to help keep it nice and moist.
As for whether to take it out early or not, like PP said it depends on if it tastes better cold. Good luck!

I love cold cake so I keep my cakes in the frig, I know on my cake boards that many ppl leave cakes out (as some frosting and fillings and such have such high sugar contain that it keep them from spoiling, so they say)
You can keep it in the frig and if they dont like cold cake then they can leave it out sometimes before they eat it.
