Interview Thank Yous

Hi ladies,

I just had a second interview for a job yesterday and wanted to get your advice. After my phone interview with my main point of contact/person who would be my supervisor, I sent a "thank you" email. I was brought in for a 1st in-person interview and met with 3 people; I sent each person a snail mail "thank you" note immediately after and then emailed the supervisor a week later to thank her again and check in on when I could expect to hear about next steps. I was then asked to come in for a 2nd in person interview with 4 different people. I went to that yesterday, and the supervisor was out sick so I did not see her. Since the director of the office told me they intended to make a decision "soon" and would be conference-calling the supervisor from home yesterday evening to discuss (it is between me and one other candidate), I opted to send "thank you" emails to all four people I met since it would be faster than a handwritten note.

My question is, is it appropriate/recommended to email the supervisor to say "thank you for continuing to consider me, I hope you are feeling better, I enjoyed meeting with A, B, C, and D yesterday, etc." Is it too late, since it sounds like they would be discussing last night, and since I already emailed the other four last night? Should I wait a week instead so as to not come on to strong, even though I assume the decision would be made sooner? Thoughts? (Sorry this is so long)

Re: Interview Thank Yous

  • I think it would be fine to send the e-mail, but start with "I hope you are feeling better..."

  • I would send it, and definitely start with, "I hope you feel better," - I think small personal touches go a long way with a lot of people.
  • Thanks, ladies. This is what I sent:

    Hi A,

I?m sorry I didn?t get to see you yesterday and I hope you are feeling better! I just wanted to thank you for continuing to consider me for the XXXX position. I really enjoyed meeting with B, C, D, and E yesterday and got a much better feel for the office environment you had described to me when we met. Everyone made me feel welcome and it seems like a culture I would love to be a part of. After learning a bit more about how each person got involved in YYYY, I was even more convinced that my skills, past experiences, and personality would be a great fit for the position. I remain very excited about the opportunity and hope to hear from you soon regarding your decision.
