how does streaming netflix work?
Re: how does streaming netflix work?
If you have a netflix account, you can stream whatever movies they have available for streaming (not everything they have on DVD). You can stream to your laptop, XBox360, and I think Playstation3. Brand new television have the ability to stream directly through them. There is also this thing called a Roku box that you can stream through to your tv, if you don't have any of the other devices.
The details, I'm not sure, because I didn't set up the streaming at our house. We stream through our XBox. My parents just bought a new tv, and stream directly through that. My BIL bought the inlaws a Roku box for Christmas. Yes, I ended up in very tech savy families. And I'm a luddite!

We have a Blu-Ray player, and it's supposed to stream through there. But I can't for the life of me figure out how to set it up.
We use Verizon (FIOS) and I am supposed to register/activate my device, but I have no idea how to do that. Hopefully someone on here will know!
We stream through our PS3 on the TV in our living room and in our bedroom we have a BluRay player capable of streaming and we stream through that. My parents stream through their Wii.
DH set it up so I don't know the details, but I believe you just need an internet connection and a NetFlix account (you used to need a disc, but not anymore). We mostly stream TV shows because the movie selection is pretty limited. It's really awesome because we suck at mailing back the actual discs they send us. The one we have now, we've had for months

soundls like we have the right equipment - we have a blu ray in the man room and wii in the Living room - and FiOS. I may look into this now. I will keep you posted
We stream through our Wii, our computers and my iTouch. It's really, really straightforward. You used to need a DVD for streaming on the Wii but they nixed that. Now you just download the Wii add on. There's a Netflix app for iTouch/iPhone that you can stream on after you log into your account through it.
I'll be very curious to see if Amazon Prime ever catches up with Netflix's streaming content.
