Backstory: My step-dad loves gadgets so he just bought my mom an iPod so she can listen to her brother's sermons (he's a pastor) as a podcast. My mom would like to listen to her brother's sermons but hates gadgets and finds it extremely frustrating to learn how to use them. My step-dad likes *buying* gadgets but does not know how to use them or set them up so he can't help my mom. Now my step-dad is annoyed at my mom that she has had the iPod since Christmas and hasn't used it. This happens every.single.year except with a different gadget.
So, this weekend my mom asked me to help her set up her iPod and iTunes so she can download her brother's sermons from the church website and listen to them on her walks. The sermons are all about 45 minutes long and she can't always listen to the whole thing at once. There are no "breaks" in the sermons like you have with different songs on a CD.
So, after all that rambling, my question is whether there is a way to stop in the middle of the sermon and have the iPod hold your spot so you can return to that same spot? Or, do you just have to try and fast-forward and find the spot yourself?
Re: iPod (maybe simple?) Technical Question
Okay that makes sense. But if she ends up listening to some music and then coming back to the sermon later, it won't hold the spot in the sermon right? I couldn't figure out whether that was an option. Thanks for your help.
She could also look at the ipod screen and note how much time has elapsed in the audio file (the screen shows this), write it down or remember it, and then fast forward to that spot later.
Okay, thank you. That makes sense and I'll let her know.
I don't know, you might experiment with it. I feel like that when I listen to a podcast and stop it midway... then listen to something else... then come back to it, it does remember my spot. However, since your uncle's sermons are just sound files (and not an official "podcast") maybe that wouldn't work because yeah, when you listen to a song and stop midway, the iPod does not "remember" where you left off if you navigate away.
Maybe someone else can chime in - but I could swear that it does remember your spot if it's an "official" podcast....? Meaning that you're using the "podcast" feature on the iPod as opposed to just listending to a sound file...?
Okay, I will look into it more. I know that when I downloaded the files, I had to find them under "Podcast" in the iPod (not under Music). I would play around with it now but my mom lives 3 hours away. I'll see her in 3 weeks so I'll play around with it more and try to see how it works.
