How long does it take you to clean your house?

We have a 1200 sq foot home, 3 bedrooms, one bath and a large eat in kitchen. It takes me about 4 hours to clean. Does that sound like a long time? The bedrooms and living room I can clean fairly quickly. I usually spend about an hour- hour and half in both the bathroom and kitchen. This includes cleaning the floors by hand and cleaning the tiles specifically in our tub (we have all white tile).  I love how the house looks afterwards, but cleaning it the way I like it is soooo draining.

Re: How long does it take you to clean your house?

  • I usually don't do all the cleaning in one day. I do one room every day, with the exception of Thursdays. I do the bedrooms, office, and game room all in that day because they go so quickly. It takes me roughly an hour to an hour and a half daily to get the cleaning done.

ETA: I do have some stuff that I do daily, as well. I always pick up around the house but that takes about 10 minutes. I also do dishes and sweep the kitchen everyday. As well as wipe down our bathroom counters. And I do laundry on Sundays. So I really spread it out.

  • I am not as good of a housekeeper as I would like to be.  I spend about an hour per day on cleaning during the week and several hours each day on the weekends.  It is never "done", unfortunately.
  • Our house is about 300 sq ft larger and it doesn't usually take me that long.  I don't get on my hands and knees to clean our floors, I just sweep and mop.

I usually switch of weeks of deep cleaning areas. Week 1: deep clean the bathroom including scrubbing the tub and tiles.  Week 2: deep clean the kitchen including the refrigerator, sink, and oven.

On the off weeks I use the general bathroom cleaner and wipe down the tub and tiles or wipe down the sink, but don't really scrub. It keeps cleanings to around 2 hours.

  • I try to spread it out over a few days, but if I want the "all clean" look at once then it usually takes about 3 hours.  Our house is 1200 sq ft, but dh uses the second bedroom as his office and all I do in there is vacuum.

I find that I can save some time by planning ahead.  For example:

*heat up a cup of lemons and water while scrubbing the counters, then dump the water in the sink and scrub out the microwave and sink

*put toilet bowl cleaner in the toilet, spray the shower walls, and then scrub out the sink and vanity and return to the tub and toilet once it's soaked a bit

*mop the kitchen floor, then vacuum while it dries

    I could have written this!

We spend 1-2 hours/day cleaning (including dishes/after-dinner kitchen clean-up and taking care of the cats...that's the bulk of it), and then a few hours on the weekend.

  • I have no idea. I do different things on different days. After work on weekdays I'll wipe down counters and tables, sweep/swiffer, change cat litter, do a load of laundry. I probably spend 15-20 minutes cleaning after work.

We only have 1 bathroom. On weekends that takes 15 minutes, plus another 15 for the shower/tub. More laundry, more general wipe-downs, plus any other projects, like bedding, moving furniture, closet organizing.

  • We just bought and moved into a 2300 sqft home and as I spent the last week disinfecting it from the previous owners, it hit me what a chore this is going to be to clean. I may try to do areas per week like some of you do. I'll def be following this thread for tips.

  • Thanks girls! I was just curious about what everyone's routine was for cleaning. I am completely wiped out after work and rarely do any sort of cleaning during the week. I  do however, make the bed daily, straighten up and and always do the dishes after dinner. When I do clean on the weekends, usually every other week, I go all out and spend a large chunk of the day wiping everything down. I do think the more frequent cleaning routine would work well because it is so much easier to clean the bathroom and kitchen if it is fairly clean when you start.

  • I feel like I am constantly cleaning, but I also like the way a clean house looks everyday so I really do not have room to complain! I make my bed everyday make sure all the dishes & laundry are done by the time I leave the house. I dust about every two days. I really hate dusting...we have espresso furniture and it gets dusty so quickly! I have been using ENDUST but its still dusty, any good tips!?

  • Our house is 2400sq ft 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths....I never timed myself...I'm guessing 6 hours? Plus little clean ups/sweeping thoughout the week. I love a clean house as well! Nothing is better than when the house is perfect!
