Camping recommendations

I just bought DH a tent for a suprirse present today, and I know he is going to be chomping at the bit to go now (as will I).  Can anyone recommend a good place to go camping?  Obviously, we will be waiting for a little warmer weather and we are willing to travel a few hours in any direction. Any recommendations would be helpful!

 Thanks!

Re: Camping recommendations

  • Hi there! I'm am mostly a lurker but saw your post and had to respond.  My favorite place to camp is White Lake State Park in Tamworth, NH.  It's a little over 2 hours from Boston and is just gorgeous!!!  The lake is pristine and is not built on at all so it's totally serene for kayaking/canoeing (you can rent there).  There are lots of sites to choose from and you really can't go wrong.  It's woodsy camping (as opposed to open, field-style).  It's about 20 minutes from North Conway and 20 minutes from Lake Winnipesaukee so there's lots around.  No pets allowed if that's a problem.  Trust me-if you want somewhere romantic, clean and amazing-WLSP is your place.

If you perchance do go-try for section 2 or 3.

  • Thank you!! We do have two dogs, but I'd be willing to give them up for a weekend to have some alone time with DH :)
  • Are you right in Boston? We go to Colbrook in Barre every year for memorial day, they have lots of events going on all the time (car shows, horseshoes etc) and there are a few local things to visit like the Brimfield flea market and Old Sturbridge Village.

I also love Powder Horn in Old Orchard Beach Maine. It's right by the board walk and they have a trolley that goes back and forth.

We also went to Hershey PA one summer (I know a little far!) and that was SO much fun!

Also Lake Pemaquid (sp?) and Papoose Pond in ME are great!

  • Strawberry Park... I think its in CT but I went every year when I was growing up. I love it there. DH used to go when he was little there too, we always wonder if we met as children and just never remembered because we would be there during the same months in the summer. Anyway, I love it there :)
