gtg

another one backing out of the gtg. I've been talking about it with dh. He told me to figure up how much it would be and we could talk about it. after doing all the realistic numbers, I decided myself that we just can't do it.

The car rental (mine can't make long trips), gas, place to stay, and food/entertainment would easily top $500.

We have so much going on right now....$5000 for a new roof, we both need new cars bad (we're living on borrowed time), our laptop just died, we're trying to pay off the rest of this student loan and build up our emergency fund for when we ttc in December.

We scrimp and save every day to try and get ahead and I wouldn't feel right spending so much on a weekend trip.

I'd love to meet everyone, but that $500 really needs to be spent elsewhere.

i'm so sorry! :(

Re: gtg

  • Im in the same boat :(  I talked to DH about it, and know we dont have the money.  It really sucks, but I just cant spend money we dont have.  We wanted to visit a friend in Florida this year too, and it looks like we wont be doing that either.

It sucks you guys have to get a new roof Lauren :(  The joys of being a homeowner, right ;)

  • Aw, bummer!  I understand, though.

So.....who still thinks they are going?

  • I completely understand!

We are on borrowed time with my car as well. We took it to a shop and they worked on but they said they would be surprised if we were not back in there in a couple of months.

And we save so much so we can put more money into our 401k's and our E fund where in case something happens we have atleast 6 months salary in there. But it does get frustrating...one of our couple friends I do not know how much they bring home but I know they can not be making more than me working here. Anyways they just took out a loan to build a house and then just bought her a 2008 GMC Acadia (SUV). She had a nice car before that a Pontiac G6 and I think it was close to being paid for. Now his dad does own a construction company and it just so happened that his dad is building some houses while they will be building their house. So we are guessing he is going to order too much wood and stuff like that to build the house. The dad is a complete snake. But I just do not understand how people like that can save and spend money like it is going out of style. TT told me does not think they have a nest egg like we do or have any money saved. I guess I want to much out of my life like oh I don't know retiring one day. Ok I will get off my soapbox now.

it's so hard to be disciplined and to suppress those 'wants', but I know i'm working for something good and preparing for our future. just gotta stay strong!

  • Completely understand Lauren. We are trying to save every penny we can because you never know what is going to come up.
